Low of 1.6C this morning but for the second day in a row the roads and pavements were quite treacherous with lots of ice after heavy rain yesterday evening.

Tonight should see the first air frost of the spell.

Still not had an air frost from this 'spell'. The low last night was 2.1c - and this under cloud with moderate-heavy rain falling (no bloody snow, though!!)

We'll probably see temps dip below freezing over the next few nights, but what's the point of cold without snow??

No air frost here either yet - down to 1.7C overnight.

This morning started at least with blue sky for a change!

As the morning's wore on, cloud has steadily increased from the North West, and there's "precipitation within sight" (love that old shipping forecast terminology! :-D). At this stage it looks eith rain, or a seagull has just dribbled a bit of piss against the office window as it flew over.

Tonight, I'm going to spread a box of Kellog's Frosties on the grass, just so I can remind myself of what a grass frost looks like :-D

Low of 0.9C here, but no ice.

More unusual is the high: just 4.0C so far, which assuming it continues would actually give that rarest of things this winter - a cold day!

The Arctic air has now arrived here in Kent.

Today's high was a rather subdued 4.3C (lower than the 6C forecast by the MetO earlier today), largely due to the lack of sun.

The dewpoint has steadily fallen since 2PM; it fell from 3.1C to freezing at 4:30. The dewpoint is now -2.8C and with an air temperature of +2.8C it meets my "rough and ready" requirements for snow (which is air+dew=zero or below - this only works within a few degrees of zero though!)

Talking of snow, there's some 20 miles away to the north, moving out of Essex. It's not meant to hit here (as it's spinning away SE'wards), but damn... it's close!

Cold spell? What cold spell, where is it

Its been 9.3c imby today and with light winds and sunshine its felt like a spring day, quite pleasant after an overnight min of 2.8c.

Wasn`t the forcast a few days ago for last night to see -5c in the midlands, -7c in the borders and -10c in Scotland.

This `cold spell` seems to have been exaggerated and looks like being slightly below average, temperature wise, until next week.

Well with temperatures currently at 3.5C, and no air frost forecasted until early Sunday I for one am not expecting snow let alone snow cover from any isolated rouge showers.

Standard January stuff this down here at the moment.

Still no air frost, a low of 0.1C overnight although all the puddles were frozen by midnight and it felt pretty chilly in the wind cycling home at that time!

A low of -0.7C last night which, given the strength of the wind, is pretty good going. Feels very raw out there, but beautiful sunshine!

The met office have much of Hampshire under a warning for ice from showers today...

The showers are barely making it across Wales and it's been like that since yesterday.... I'm confused as to why they think showers are now all of a sudden start making this far south.

this implies that snow or wintery showers have or will have fallen by this evening in the areas. It's got nothing to do with the rain that fell earlier this week otherwise there would have been a weather warning last night for the bulk of Hampshire & West Sussex.

There was ice on the cars here this morning, for the first time since November and although it has reached 6.3c today it feels bitterly cold in the keen wind

Fingers crossed the mild air returns next week!

Ice on puddles, first ice on the car psrked outside this winter.

West Dean, in a valley just north of Chichester in the Downs recorded zero C last night, -1 the night befora, but that's not unusual as it's a genuine frost hollow with cold air draining into the valley from the hills on either side.

FWIW, I don't consider Hurn a frost hollow as the topography is pretty flat with nowhere for the cold air to pond up. It's got very light dry sandy soil which cools rapidly in winter and heats rapidly in summer. (Yes, I live in Chichester but my sister lives in Hurn so I do know the area)
