Considering it's not (quite) mid-month it's noteworthy we are already on 110mm after another very wet (snowy) spell. That's about 30mm above the whole month average and significantly more out of line than November and December which were unexceptional here.Having said that the next week at least looks on the dry side, so it may well finish up unremarkable after all.
A feature of January has been events which - by chance really - affect the eastern side.November and December were the opposite, for example when the Lakes just 60 miles away were hammered early December, it was only patchy drizzle and gales here.Behind that is a subtle change in the track of depressions I suppose.
245mm here so far.
Total this month 63.9mm.
Total for here now stands at 99.3mm , wettest January since 1988 , January average for here is 50.4mm
