Cairngorm Summit (- I think that is actually at the top station of the funicular) has recorded gusts of 100mph and more every hour since 3am, with a peak of 134mph so far. And the strongest winds are not even forecast to hit till this evening!

We have had a gust of seventy mph in town {university] here in the East already this morning with the peak not due until  8pm. Last Friday the top gust in town was 91mph and 96 on the bridge. I feel that these could be beaten today.

Surprised by how windy it is - there's bins and small branches blowing about already (I suppose the fact it's bin day has more to do with that that anything else though!) 

Hawarden and Liverpool reporting average windspeeds of 44mph recently and gusts to around 60mph, though it seems a bit less windy than it was about half an hour ago. Looks like this warm sector could really ramp up some damaging gusts in the lee of the Pennines and Dales before the cold front arrives. By which time I assume most attention will be on Scotland.

Bins flying here for same reason, the peak gusts are fairly normal around 50-55mph and the mean is in the 40s

I used to think that, but the readings don't correspond. Met Office seem consistently higher (and I notice that "Magic Seaweed" pick up the Met Office results as well). Possibly the Heriot Watt anemometer suffers from icing? I think there must be more than one station, but I haven't got to the bottom of it. Certainly a weather station at the funicular would be a lot easier to access and maintain.

Yes I know there is certainly one at the top funicular station as they use it to assess it's operation. Perhaps they feed this in to the system too.

I think Henry's giving Manchester a swerve. Nothing more than a tad breezy today. However, a colleague was saying this morning that they've had a text from their golf club (just outside Manchester) to tell them the course is closing today due to the treat of strong winds.

The strongest winds from Henry have always been forecast to peak later tonight/overnight before moderating somewhat by the morning as you can see on the following Meto forecast.

The system is still developing and only now approaching the north-west of Scotland so plenty of time for the wind to increase yet!!
