I think I'm suffering from WMF* because I just can't be arsed getting excited about this upcoming snap. It doesn't help that (up to this morning) the flow has been forecast to be easterly, which, apart from some rare exceptions (like March 13) doesn't deliver snow here.

* Winter Model Fatigue

I've often seen it too. Cold air can't hold as much moisture as warm air, so that's part of the reason. There is simply more moisture in a rain band. Local topography, wind speed, etc, also play a part, but I'm sure you know that already.

Return of frost this week is welcome though.

Roll on Spring and summer at least there is much better chance of seeing some decent storms 

Can't see anything happening tonight except more of the same rubbish snowfalls we've had for the last 3 years. A brief covering that is gone by lunchtime or lasts a day at most. Already it's clear from the radar that once again the bulk of the shower activity is inexplicably avoiding coastal areas though there was a brief rain shower earlier 

Then there is an awful spell to endure. Grey, drizzly, raw easterly rubbish. Truly vile and likely to be the pattern that dominates spring now that every season seems to see the worst synoptic setups prevail.

This trash will bring nothing desirable. No frost, no snow, no sun. Just another revolting gloomfest weekend:

Only had one sunny Sunday all year (17th Jan) and even then it took until mid-morning for the sun to appear.

A pathetic end to a competely useless winter. Barely any frost or snow for the 10th successive winter month and 20 out of 22 days, so far in February, have seen a max between 4.0C and 7.5C. 2 mild days and nothing cold. Just ridiculous - it's the same temperatures no matter which direction the wind is coming from. A joke and utterly mind-numbing even by the woeful standards of this current era, in which extremes have all but vanished to leave endless tedious nothingness all the time

The British climate now seems to resemble the weather on the 1980's film Blade Runner.

For those who haven't seen it Blade Runner was set in the 21st Century where pollution has led to a permanently cloudy, gloomy world of endless drizzle, sound familiar!

As for this upcoming cooler/colder snap, I'm expecting it to be bone dry here. Great.

Already had to defrost the car windows 4/5 mornings out of the last 7 and I think age is catching up with me. Disruptive snow is great & fun, but just cold & frost has lost a lot of its appeal.

It isn't going to be the worst winter I have experienced that was easily 2013-14. I still can't believe just how devoid of wintriness that "winter" was. This winter has been much wetter here than 2013-14 and  December was just outrageous but the index is actually going to be higher than the others on that list, it is going to be higher than 2006-07 value at least.

I've just had a quick look at the latest output, and it looks like the atlantic could soon be back in (Monday), so i think i'm just about going give up looking for any snowfall events now as they never come off & tend to disappear, & it isn't going fall here this week with temps at 5 or 6 c. So let's just put this winter in the trash and try again in December.

Not long now for the moaning about winter along with the gloating from some... Glad to see some  frosts and clear skies.. Like to go out seeing when I can...

Looks like I was being wildly optimistic in saying this would likely be as poor a snowfall event as the typical dross of the last 3 years.

Nowhere even near to being that good. An embarrassing pathetic joke. Bone dry all night with a vile, rattling wind that as well as keeping me awake, also prevented the temperature falling below freezing. Beyond awful and no different to the tripe we have to suffer under "cold" zonality

Just what the hell is going on when even a northerly now delivers absolutely nothing? Just a few pathetic flurries in the morning that failed to even produce a 50% cover. Must be some new mountains that have suddenly appeared to the north

Well, on the plus side it has been dry today!

But back to the rant! - Looks like winter is over this cold spell or cooler spell will not deliver any snow having just seen the forecast by Alex Deakin. After such a crap winter you would have though the final week would produce something for all of us but sadly this isn't to be now. Someone said WMF setting in which I assume means Model Fatigue.

The sleet/snow on the frontal system that was a possibility this Saturday will miss England & Ireland entirely now (deliberately go around it) then move eastwards towards northern Spain, central and southern France, northern Italy then moving up towards the Alps and into Germany and Poland etc etc.... then as for next week - well this is the forecast summary below - NOT one mention of snow or wintry showers:

Been the worst winter I have ever had the misfortune to experience. Disastrous winter 0/10.

I don't really want snow in March because it's a spring month. - Friends of mine told me that the daffodils where they live (in Bournemouth) have come and gone already as it's been so mild!! Well we here in Exeter did have 16.5c on Sunday. 

What a dire winter and well done to Gavin for predicting/forecasting what he did back in September "A nightmare scenario because if you're looking for a cold winter this is as bad as it get's really!" - I remember that you said this back in September whilst reporting on the Siberian snow cover. etc

Let's hope next winter delivers. I said this last year and the year before for this year but still I try to remain hopeful. I know England is not an ideal place for snow but we use to have some decent cold spells as you know and not just in 2010 but in the 80's and 90's - I remember the winter of 91 when the daytime temperatures never rose above -2 or -3c and wind-chill were down to -10c.  I remember winter 1996. Anyway, looks like there really is more chance of seeing snow in subtropical Taipei, Taiwan than here. - I may visit there.
