I can only say one thing, that azores high needed to be punctured by something, otherwise there may have been a chance or two of a few decent events. (A bit simplified i know, but you get the drift - i think)

Even a cooler than average N. Atlantic sea means more intense low pressure systems and stronger winds.

BTW IS anyone having issues posting on here? I click post' and it takes 20-30 seconds to post and doesn't seem to refresh??

Another fine spring day here, blue skies, sunshine, light breeze and 9.9c  (Pershore 9.8c).   Colder than Sunday though

Anyway I'm gonna moan about the lack of freezing weather here last night despite clear skies & North East winds. Currently 4C overnight low of 2.5C.

A lovely sunny frosty morning here too and although the snow showers are still visible they are also still distant (over the sea and to the north). Perhaps later today...

Hey guys I think SW France (Charente) is coming out in sympathy with you Brits enduring a miserable and mild winter. December and January were not too bad here with sunny spells in between the rain. We even managed a few frosty mornings and the minimum we have had has been -4 degrees centigrade. February however has been abysmal!! Very strong winds and lots and lots of rain and grey gloom. Sun has barely been out and everywhere is muddy. Seen mozzies flying around and don't get me started on the flies!

It's 10 degrees out there as I type this and is what the Scots would call "dreich".

Bloody disgrace of a winter all in all. So depressing if this is a taste of things to come in the next few decades and beyond.

An inch of snow here - temperature below zero and light NW breeze- sun shining. A beautiful late winter morning.

I think at this point, the chances of settling snow at this end seem to be as high as me getting married on the 30th February. However, I am appreciating this current dry, bright and calm spell of weather.

Just been reading about record snowfalls in the Canary Islands last weekend, OK it's above 3000feet but we are talking about an area 3000km south of the UK for Gods sake!

See link below

So there you have it, if you live in Southern England you need to go to Tenerife to see snow. Lol

We were up near the summit a few years ago in February and were surprised by the depth of a few of the drifts.

I know that Doc but snow lay across Teide's National Park above 4000 feet and was observed to fall down to 3000 feet on Saturday, this was not just a Mount Teidi event so your quote of 12000 feet is misleading.

Snow also fell on Gran Canaria down to 4000 feet.

Andy you haven't posted a direct link to the actual story so I found it hard to work out where snow fell. I only found the story I posted the link to and it doesn't mention snow down to 3000ft in Tenerife. Any chance of a direct link?

Anyway, if you live in southern England and want to see snow above 3,000ft wouldnt it be easier just to go to Snowdonia?

Hi doc, it was quoted on the amount Teidi snow forecast website last weekend although of course it's warmed up now.

www.snow-forecast.com

Even in the article it mentions that snow lay across the whole of the Teidi National Park not just the mountain itself, as you have been there you will know the park is a huge area that lies above about 4000 feet.

Snow at this level occurs once every 5-7 years but the amount of snow that fell last weekend was unusual.

A bit of snow lying. Hard to say how many tenths of a mm and too dark to take pictures but it will take several more showers to get to as much as this:

That's the top picture of Kuwait I was referring to. It's been three years since there was as much snow here as Rafha, Saudia Arabia got  at 29 degrees north where average winter temperatures are warmer than summer here

This island has an utterly useless climate that just keeps on getting more and more lame and insipid

As we come to the end of another disappointing winter (in terms of lack of any proper cold and snow in my area) I found myself enjoying an absolutely stunning day in Bristol today. The warmth of a strengthening sun against a gorgeous clear blue sky made for fantastic walking weather. Really enjoyed it. Nice to have a day off that coincides with such a wonderful weather day, as most this winter have generally been wet and windy! Given up any hope of a decent snowfall and am starting to look forward to spring and summer, where I'll be hoping for a decent thunderstorm or two!

And another thing - it's March on Tuesday so please put this sick joke of a winter to bed and let's get on with warmth and convection and summer storms.
And if they also fail to materialise then I don't care because I'll be in the States taking in some real weather.

Yes! - I agree - feeling bitterly cold in the easterly wind - then plonks at temperature of 8 or +9c which is still at or above average for London & the SE for February anyway. It's not even a cold spell now and nothing wintry about next week either and the sleet/snow won't even reach the SW let alone central and southern area's. Had a high of +11c today and it felt pleasant in the lighter winds and stronger sun.

Crap winter full stop 0/10. Also - is this the first winter when London has not recorded any snowfall that accumulated? Because every winter there has always been snow falling and settling even if it were just a day but this winter none? Accept perhaps one night in middle of January but even then it never settled!? Anyone?

Look forward to a thread titled "Rate the winter 2015/16 out of 10)" - would be interested to see what others say.

Just wish I know why it has been quite so bad? Gavin was correct all the time about it being a "nightmare scenario/horror show!"

Leeming in North Yorkshire has had 92 hours of sun this month. Average is around 83 hours. Rainfall is at 39mm. All in all, a fairly decent month - not much rain, and more sunshine than normal. No wonder the flora seems to have awoken a little earlier this year.
