The last time i actually saw snow falling and laying in this lowland part of Hampshire was suprisingly last year  in February.. But i didnt see it as i  just happen to be working away  in London and saw nothing!

So i guess i can claim i never actually saw faling snow laying and havent  since 2013 however i do work away , and i dont get up at 3 am to check so  I think sometimes we suffer from selective memory loss.!  Mind you it was all gone by midday..so maybe not so memorable..

Its 365 days since I saw a snow flake.

But there was a brief full ground cover of snow here in Evesham in January last year.   At around 2am.    It had all gone by 6am.   So most never knew it happened ....

The slushfest of 2013 never produced full ground cover in town.   I dont recall whether 2012 did.   I know there was not a single flake of snow in 2011.

I think I may have to go all the way back to December 2010 for a proper snow cover that lasted all day!

IMBY rather than on them thar hills...a proper layer and snow falling - we are talking around 3rd April 2013.  Nearly 3 years and counting

Abysmal even by the standards of 1973-6 or 1988-90.

About 2-3 weeks ago. Thursday or Friday morning, overnight rain turned to snow at 8am - heavy for an hour, then a couple more hours - maybe 2-3" in total. Before that early/mid-December - again rain turned to snow one Saturday - had about 6 hours of snow. About 4-5" on favoured surfaces (grass), 2-3" elsewhere. Lasted in decent amounts until Monday/Tuesday following with bits and bobs for a week-10 days. Before that mid-November it snowed at about 2am one night, lay, about 1.5". Washed away by 6:30am as the snow turned to rain.

I'm low level for this part of the world - about 100m.

TBH Marcus you are 100% right. It's head scratching. We had the mildest Nov/Dec yet we just got very lucky with synoptics those 2 times. The big snow event (mid Dec) was rain sweeping across the country - it was rain up to about Scotch Corner, and then snow beyond that. Just very lucky. Mind you, I remember a big snow event a couple of years ago where everyone else got snow and we got 5 hours of freezing rain :/ Swings and roundabouts!

I generally take a snap or two just to mark those rare occasions

Probably the winter of 2012/13 for anything noteworthy. I used my window wipers to remove the 6 flakes from the last average spell.

Further light snow fell later that month until 2nd April but by that stage it wouldn't settle.

January this year (5cm). Before then, November last year (1cm). Before then, March last year (1cm). Before then, January last year (6cm). Before then, December 2014 (4-5cm). I could go on, but I won't.

Funnily enough, the snowfall on Boxing Day 2014 saved 2014 from being a snowless year - and we were so close to a White Christmas. Still felt nice though since all the decorations were still up.

Abroad - Calgary, Canada in March 2013 - It was -21c with ice-crystals - then drove to Lake louise it warmed up (Chinook winds) to -7c with sunshine. - felt balmy. Only 180 km's (1hr 45mins) drive and such a huge difference in weather/temperature. - We all thought it would be colder in Lake Louise but turned out some 10-15'c warmer.

Back in Exeter a slushy deposit in Jan 2013 which melted, Feb/March 2013 brought a lot of wet snow and sleet or graupel but very little settled if any) - so that didn't really count. - 4th Feb 2012 - there was a dusting of powder until 11am at a temp of -3c.

Prior to that December 2010.

Last time I saw falling and lying snow was Feb 3rd, 2015, with 3cm snowcover.

About 2 weeks ago, in the cold spell, we had snow falling on Saturday night and into Sunday morning, with a covering on the grass that survived until the afternoon.

Before that there was snow on the lawn one morning early in the winter but I've forgotten exactly when.

Here we have had only one covering of snow (better than a brief thin layer of slush) since December 2010 over 5 years ago (Jan '13). It's been a very poor run.

When I first went to Calgary in 2002, we set off from Calgary with the temp around 17/18c

Lake Louise was still frozen solid, snow was falling, and the temp was -12c

(that was the time when, a couple days later, Calgary turned frigid & and overnight snowfall left around 9" of snow on the ground; when we left 3/4 days later, temps were peaking well into the 70's.

Incidentally, I'm another whose last snow was a couple of weeks ago (2cm)

Before that, 30th Jan 15 (around 5cm); before that Boxing Day 2014 (around 5cm)

No falls that have lasted on the ground more than 48 hours, mind.

I like variable weather.. but I imagine Calgary is a place where it's almost impossible to acclimatise due to the rapid swing in temperature. The epitome of schizophrenic weather! Denver in Colorado is just as bad.
