Recent snow shower here giving our first covering of the Winter!,  albeit a very thin covering.  Temp of +1.5C.

An unexpected dusting of snow here in Kibworth Leicestershire this morning.

So its been snowing now for 70 minutes and I'm wondering at what point does a snow shower become persistent snow?

To be fair it came extremely close to stopping at least 5 times, but always there was a few flakes in the air. Clearly it is snow showers in quick succession but can I legitamately claim persistent snow?

Recorded 123 minutes of snow, probably about 4cm fallen in that time (although the snow depth is less than that due to melt). About 70% of the snow was light and there were times when a bit of eye strain was needed to see it. Nevertheless it was a little over 2 hours of constant snow.

...but nothing meaningful except above 600m in Scotland? (Not that anyone lives above 600m asl in Scotland anyway )

Hi Neil, is Berkshire not SSE from the S Midlands?

Have you seen the T60 fax chart, surely cold enough for frontal snow as well as backedge snow, 528 dam almost caught the front up? This really is going to be fascinating to see what happens.

Its not even worth trying to analyse. Don't build up your hopes. It will rain. It never snows any more.

BBC North West giving no risk of snow here.

Need a westward-correction of the pattern.

I've been about since 2002 and the amount of times I've seen a South/Westward correction are innumerable..

I fear the greatest dampener may be intensity of precipitation as these frontal events have a tendency to fizzle. I would go for somewhere in the South West Midlands to see the most prolonged snow from this, perhaps the highest bits of the Cotswolds or the Malverns. Think we will be too far West here in Hay on Wye.

This one is going to be interesting, for sure, and a testament to reading between the lines a bit while model watching.

Checking out the t2m 0c and 1c temperatures at 1pm on Thursday gives a good indication of where the heaviest snow will possibly fall.

1pm Friday t2m are also telling as they show restricted temperatures over snow cover.

I'm off work Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I've decided that if the snow won't come to me then I'm going to travel to it. The sweet spot tonight is Chipping Norton in The Cotswolds, altitude 220 metres. 

A mere 2 and a half drive too. 

Lets watch how it all falls apart
