Even if it does actually go onto producing some snow for the lucky select few (Buxton) come the moment, it's hard to get excited about a wintry event that will get swept away by milder westerlies 24 hours later anyway.

You know in them wildlife programmes where the inferior creatures (us here at the UK) are licking the last scraps of meat off a long since died carcass (this winter) after the bigger powerful animals (the US) have been at it? That's now it feels so far this season.

My model watching falls off a cliff at the end of Feb.The problem is that the chances of lying snow decrease dramatically as increased solar power kicks in and Europe warms .up.Of course there are exceptions most recently March 2103 and perhaps forgotten a snowy beginning for March 2005.

Historically the end of March 1952 had a major blizzard and of course the breakdown of the 1947 in early March provided heavy falls of snow.

Sometimes polar low and very active cold front moving south can deposit 6 inches overnight even in southern Engalnd that happened in the mid 1990,s i seem to remember.

But all in all after another snowless Dec- Feb that's enough until next year when El Nino   is due to be replaced by La Nina.

Good to see - I was wondering why they were  only showing snow risk for northern parts as it went against the forecasts.Still doesn't quite cover my area though.

back in 2013 I flew out to Honk Kong the day after a metre of snow fell not far from here.

Waited a lifetime to see that kinda snow fall, and didnt get to enjoy it :(

If it's any consolation, I was in Wrexham about a week after that monumental snowfall, and I saw huge drifts still in place, along with huge piles of snow from car park clearance that were about 10ft tall

Yes it has progressively got less and less snowy over the last two or three runs. The gradual warming of the climate has just about put paid to these "marginal" set-ups delivering anything. 30 years ago we might have been in business.

Arome hi-res has just a few speckles of pink. Frustrating that much of northern France gets snow with 850s two or three degrees higher than we have here!

Yes, it's a nowcast, but a warming of (say) 1C over the past 30 years can make a huge difference when you consider how many UK snow set-ups are extremely marginal.
