Still snowing, 6cm now, temperature 1.5C

It was snowing when I first looked out the window at 7am this morning, so we`ve had around 8 hours of continuous snow.

You can't complain I guess with temperatures around or just above freezing along with 8 hours of continuous snow and accumulating throughout the day, for the start of spring eh!??

I'll just say that 2009-2013 was certainly a snowy period for us - no doubt for many others too. Winter of 2012-13 was probably the snowiest winter in over 45 years. Based on my (admittedly very) amateur recordings, we have nearly 90cm of snow - with notable falls in January, February and March.

Beats anything in the 90s I'd say.

At 1240 today soft hail started falling and this got really heavy but refused to turn to snowflakes: on the ground it looked like savaged polystyrene. I checked closely but none of the large round grains that fell melted on impact with a cold metal table in the hotel where I was conferencing.

This continued until 1.20pm when some large visible flakes started falling and there was a slushy deposit on the tables. Now before the ubiquitous 'So What?'s start flooding in, this was the first snow of any sort in this local area since February last year.

All about dewpoints today. Mostly the right side of marginal for many so even with dry bulb temps around 5C, ppn as snow aloft stayed as snow in sub zero dps and quickly dragged temps down as it was falling.

Its even snowing as I speak here in Liphook in N Hampshire (rouge wintry shower, elevation 110m).

All this talk of snow- amazing. I hope you've all had a good day. Not a single flake here- the snow shield is up, running and working well 😀

1.9c with heavy sleet.
We had a maximum depth of 9cm at 10 am, tbe airportwas closed for several hours. Then the warm air encroached. Just to the south of here its still snowing Emley Moor at 0.4c.

Still have cover on the grass but it's thinning out and all gone from pavements and trees. A shame it couldn't have been an all snow event could have been 20cm plus.

Here on the roof of the Cotswolds we've had snow showers on and off since 11am but not really settling. Since about 6pm though it's been more persistent and the temperature has fallen away to 0.6c so we have a very light slushy covering starting to build although the snow is very light. I think we might see a cm or 2 by the morning.

More persistent snow here in Birmingham at the moment which is a surprise. Also is the front further north moving back south again as Raintoday are showing potential for more hours of snow in the Peaks and north Staffordshire!

Risk of further localized falls of snow over night as the weakening front very slowly pivots and move's east and peters out to a drizzly mess tomorrow.

Pity It was not a bit colder could of been a classic over the last few days.
