So for this unusually cold spell of weather, I thought it would be interesting to keep track of low temperatures both by day and night. Opportunity for some sub -5C nights, and Thursday has a chance of being an ice day (wouldn't that be something). Personally I'm going to record here the minimaxes and minimins for official stations in the UK each day.

2023/2024 Snow days (approx 850hpa temp):
29/11 (-6), 30/11 (-6), 02/12 (-5), 03/12 (-5), 04/12 (-3), 16/01 (-3), 18/01 (-8), 08/02 (-5)

Total: 8 days with snow/sleet falling.

2022/2023 Snow days (approx 850hpa temp):

18/12 (-1), 06/03 (-6), 08/03 (-8), 09/03 (-6), 10/03 (-8), 11/03 (-5), 14/03 (-6)

Total: 7 days with snow/sleet falling.

2021/2022 Snow days (approx 850hpa temp):

26/11 (-5), 27/11 (-7), 28/11 (-6), 02/12 (-6), 06/01 (-5), 07/01 (-6), 06/02 (-5), 19/02 (-5), 24/02 (-7), 30/03 (-7), 31/03 (-8), 01/04 (-8)
Total: 12 days with snow/sleet falling.

Tulloch Bridge had an (hourly) overnight minimum of -4.9°C last night.

Edit: Its absolute minimum last night I believe was -5.3°C

No I am saying this is a thread for reporting unusually low temperatures, I would have thought that was obvious. 11°C is not unusually cold (even for the south of England in April) that's all.

We have other threads (the spring thread and current conditions threads)for such reports. It is not a regional thread nor have I even remotely insinuated that it is, you have raised that IMBY approach, please don't. As to your last point, yes perhaps you are.

I would have thought 5C - 7C for lowland northern Scotland and coastal North East England were not that unusual though for late April. As for upland areas of northern England & Scotland snow even into early May is surely not unusual??

I think a balance of perspective to relative norms is needed here.. ☺️ It's only fair.

I'm not sure that I have suggested that today's maxima were very unusual up here? We have perspective. The reason I have not commented on the daytime maxima up here today is the same reason as I commented on your post - they are not unusual or especially noteworthy.

Snow is not unprecedented up here in late April but it is also not the norm (it is also a separate issue to a low temperature watch thread and ere is a dedicated red to discuss the snow risk and snow reports).

Semantics aside, I presumed the thread was going to be about how low the minima are rather than reporting a downward moderation on daytime maxima given the ameliorating influence of the sun at this time of year.

It reached 6°C here today so cool rather than notably cold but I think over coming days there could be some noteworthy temperatures at night, but also possibly by day.

Yesterday around this time it was a similar temperature but it felt really cold under cloud and in wind. Today even under cloud and wind it feels fairly mild...

What a different the Dew Point makes to the feel of things yesterday it was about 0.5C at this time, and today it's currently 6.5C :Β£

This is something very surreal...

I've just been stood out in the garden watering plants in a t-shirt with the air temperature around 4C.

It's sunny though and it actually felt very warm with the strong sunshine at this time of year, the condensation from my breath looked as if I was blowing smoke πŸ˜‚

Though the second the wind blew the gentlest breeze it tunered icy.

With lighter winds it's down to 1.8C here before dark, frost seems likely. 6.2C was the max about 2pm
