I wonder if any more will be on their way this month?

The oddly midsummer-like state of affairs, so suddenly after the 'winter strikes back' situation of April certainly goes into my mind-book of remarkable events.

I've been sitting out in the evenings, even when skies have been overcast, marveling at my ability to do so in shorts and a t-shirt. It's a very rare event prior to the final week or so of May, as is emphasised by the fact that a couple of nights this week exceeded my local 2000-2015 date record minimums for all of 1st-23rd May -  and as it happens, most of the higher values in the final week were achieved during one significant event - the 2012 heatwave.

There was also a date record (2000-2015) maximum on the 8th. The warm night started going into the 9th so a date record 24 hour mean was missed out on.

Nonetheless, it has been an impressive run of days even for the balmy south - and according to GFS, it will be barely above freezing on Saturday morning, which will only serve to make the past 7 days' warmth stand out further.

Here are the latest charts and tables for May. The CET peaked yesterday and is unlikely to return to this level before the end of the month.

After a chilly weekend temperatures look like being close to average for the following 10 days. Possibly something a bit warmer by the bank holiday weekend.

Currently I estimate a CET of 12.74C by the 27th which is well above average due to the recent 7 day warm spell.

It's beginning to look like a final CET of somewhere between 12.4-12.9 is most probable this month although a great deal of uncertainty which end of these figures. More of a Summer month than a Spring month!

Here are the latest stats for May. Still looking like May will finish somewhere around 12.6 - 12.7C so close to the current figure.

The next 4 days look a bit cooler than average and then the rest of the month slightly above average. But no sign of a heatwave at the moment.

four, what period of averages do you use? Your anomalies always seem way less than anywhere else.
