four, what period of averages do you use? Your anomalies always seem way less than anywhere else.

May was going so well for those who placed faith in the warm month potential - but it has been a bit of a let down this final week.

Pray tell - what does luck feel like?

The figures for May are in with the exception of the maximum CET for the 31st which is what is holding up Hadley issuing a final figure. However, from the data I do have I can say what the final figure will be to within 0.01C.

As at the 30th the official and final Hadley CET was 12.52C. This compares to my estimate of 12.53C.

For the 31st I estimate the CET rose to 12.55C. Using my estimate for the maximum CET on the 31st the official Hadley figure would rise to 12.54C.

So the final figure should be 12.54C +-0.01C. See the tables below.

This means that this month our winners are Bertwhistle, Darren S, Deep Powder and Global Warming who all predicted 12.50C. Also possibly cowman with 12.60C if the final number was to come in at 12.55C.

The final numbers show that the CET for the 8th was 17.8C, a date record. For the 9th we officially had 17.6C which equals the date record from 1945.

My initial posted guess was 12.5c - but I'd meant to say 12.25 and changed it the day later when I noticed my error.

What a numpty!

BTW, when can expect the new charts, GW. I think even with my amended entry I'll still climb the table a little, in what is a crazily roller-coaster year for me

Here finally are the completed charts for May. Overall a mild month. For Spring it was average compared to the 1971-2000 mean but 0.3C below average based on the 1981-2010 mean.

Annual CET prediction competition - May update

Here are the tables for May. We have a new leader - just. The Professional is the new leader on count back (where two people are tied I then look to see who has the lowest prediction error in any one month. The Professional's lowest error was 0.09C in February and Frank H's was 0.10C also in February).

Fantastic. Many thanks GW. I reckon my 0.04 error for May might help me in any stewards' enquiry in future too. Can we stop now please? 😂
