Quickly skimming through the various models while an ad break is on, I seem to get this impression that somehow some kind of trough-like synoptic always seem to wind it's way towards and over the UK, with the highs - needed for good extended settled spells - are being held back either over the Atlantic or towards the Russian end of Europe.

It's like always being dealt a rubbish hand in a card game and we keep losing every time.

Yes it could be  a wet summer but i have yet to see anyone predict that far ahead with accuracy.

As LRFs are all really about looking at trends, I see no reason to change my view that this summer will, overall, end up being much wetter than average.

The fact that many days this June have only managed to be as warm as December 2015 makes it laughable to say this has been a decent month.

With December being wet and VERY VERY mild, June has been wet and many days really have felt, and looked, exactly as those December days. Mild and wet!

It's going to be roles reversed next week, but I hope the 'high to the NE' scenario repeats through summer, because it's great for the west, who've had more than our fair share of dismal summers from 2007 onwards.

Prior to the commencement of the first major heatwave circa 21st June, the first half of that June in my part of the world was largely a mixture of fairly warm & mostly sunny days and cooler and cloudier ones. We did have some rain, but nothing excessive for June. The worst Junes I can remember in the 1990's for weather I would say were 1990, 1991, 1997 and 1998. The latter two were particularly bad; the wettest since the early 80's I seem to recall it being mentioned at the time.

June has far from been a write off - plenty of sun, humidity, storms. Everything a British summer month should be (with apologies to Eastern coastal locations, who I realise have had it very different!)

So far (and we are only in mid-June), I've had four out of seven washed out completely, with two of the other three being rain-affected.

Only ONE match so far has been played in summer-like dry weather.

Added to that, out of my 12 training sessions, NINE have been completely cancelled due to rain.

That is a lot of bloody wet weather, and can't see it changing much over the coming week or two!

This is actually more games cancelled than during that fateful 2007 summer (although our ground was submerged in 10 feet of water so we moved to another ground for the rest of that "summer").

We had our first game called off on Saturday. We've had 3 warm and sunny Saturdays for playing and three that were windy and cold.

We've had some very heavy rain here but also some dry days. The showers here have been incredibly local on occasions, floods in one place and dry just down road.

Quite a lot of plumage at the end of the run. The Atlantic/Azores  high pronged to reach us here around Tuesday is less prominent than a week ago keeping thing unsettled and at times muggy.

Early days but thankfully the 12z ECM is finally showing a break from the dreadful summer Synoptics we've been enduring..probably an outlier but that 12z looks much better.

Where I am, although the past wee or so have been more unsettled than beforehand, we have had a much better opening to the summer than was the case last year. In fact, out of both last June and July, we had the grand total of one decent week for weather, and that came on the back of a very poor May last year. The difference was that last year the atlantic was much more dominant during the late spring and much of the summer than has been the case in recent times.

A local station has had the THWS index maxing over 25C pretty much every day bar 2 this month, and a top one at almost 35C.

Locally we have had little convective rainfall although yesterdays frontal rain pushed things towards 50mm.

Well I need a bloody ark, over 110mm of rain here since the wet spell began, numerous days of steady rain and leaden grey skies, it's been bloody miserable for June, more akin to October. You wait all winter of a NE flow and lo and behold come a summer month it arrives with vengeance. And you've guessed it...... More rain to come this week. 🙄
