Highest temp all month was only 26C but it was consistently warm. Very little rain - only 11mm.

September 1991 was good too. Warmer then June that year - but considering how diabolical June 1991 was, that wasn't exactly hard.

The best of the weather was in the later part of the month and this continued into September.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but wasn't September the sunniest month of the year in 1991 in NW England.  Probably unusual considering the shorter days that time of year.

The month was consistently warm here but apart from a Saturday around the tenth or eleventh I think (28C) all the hot weather came in the last week. Topped 25 for the last 6 days, & I spent the entire week river swimming. 3 of those 6 were above 27 (31st reached 28.7C in Mayflower Park) and we went on to enjoy 3 consecutive 27C+ from 3rd-5th Sep. I remember the conkers were massive that year.
