Day 3. For London, Surrey, Sussex, Kent and Essex at least. The front still to the west, no real rain last night, a southerly flow and broken skies with a warm start this morning. If the cloud clears north we still might just squeeze another 30c today starting from a high base?

The BBC forecaster this morning was being very conservative, maxes 26-27 in the South East.

Various models are indicating 30C+. I suspect it will depend on what happens to the mid level cloud. Will be interesting to see it play out, I wouldn't want to hazard a guess yet.

Tomorrow down here looks lovely. Wall to wall sunshine and a still respectable 26 or 27.

Tuesday was almost hot here - just short of 25C, yesterday a light northerly kept things very pleasant at about 21C and today it's damp and 13.9C.
So not much of a heatwave just fairly typical warmish couple of days then change.

Clear blue skies here in London and approaching 25c already at 1045 in town and to the south.

All down to whether and what may blow across. Right now, 30c somewhere seems a safe bet.

More infill with the cloud than some models were suggesting across central parts today. Seeing readings wavering in the range of 22-24*C as occasional bouts of well-scattered but large rain drops occur.

I've been eagerly tracking a clear zone in The Channel as it journeys over - but it's taken a bit longer than I'd hoped. The sun may return by 15:00 but, being two hours past peak solar input time, the surface heating seems likely to fall short of what was hoped for (27*C or so). Such temperatures would lead to ample rising motion for any low-based convection that develops in the evening to work with. As it is, 24 or 25*C can be sufficient if there is enough instability in the mid-levels.

I have to wonder how GFS thought 29*C was going to happen in these parts today when it also showed 100% cloud cover until late afternoon. If I had to guess, I'd say it was going for most of that cloud to be thin enough for hazy sunshine to come through.

What fantasy

29C at Gravesend and a solid 28C most of the way home from Sittingbourne to Sheppey. The temperature then fell from 28 to 25 on the last couple of miles home - a sure sign of a sea breeze!

(It's hazy out there though, the dewpoint is saround 18C).

Interestingly today's max of 28.0c occured at midday before the sudden onset of this light sea breeze.

Dewpoints have been higher today resulting in a sweaty feel. Its sitting at 19c now but peaked at 21c around noon.
