Heatwave continues today though less humid.

We were looking likely to see our 4th day on the run with temperatures at or above 26C.

Currently 25C with clear skies as almost non existent N winds.

It's a really lovely day out there and feels warmer than the official readings. LCY is my closest and that says 25C. Feels 27ish here.

I have to confess that normally I'm a heat and humidity fan..earlier today though was tough. I simply could not get dry after my morning shower !

At 3.30am soon after the passing thundery shower a temperature of 23.3c was accompanied by a dewpoint of 22.0c.

The highest I've ever witnessed.

After 9am the DP's dropped away as others have testified its feeling far more tolerable now.

Yup. A humid steamy start again. Quite hazy in the western third of the sky, clear above and to the east. We're right on the eastern boundary of today's thunderstorm weather warning so that's probably basically what I'm looking at. So, as we're still just inside this southerly conveyor of air and going by feel alone, I suspect we might just see another 27c today. Nicer to be at home in the countryside rather than in London though.

Reached 27C around lunchtime here, so yet another hot day to round off a hot week. Skies were clear all morning, but it's now turning increasingly hazy/cloudy from the south, so it's cooled slightly (still warm tho!).

Well all our local stations show over 27c with the closest at 28C (Charlwood is the closest I think) so that's

25C, 31C, 33C, 29C, 27C, 28C

Very hot and humid today though. Not as pleasant as yesterday's 27c. Cloud bubbled up briefly to his afternoon too else we would have had more.

Conscious how limited in geographical scope this hot spell has been but no less welcome for it

While not a heatwave here, the working week averaged 4.25*C above the combined LTA for those dates. Today's failure to heat up much has dropped the figure to +3.79*C, and based on model numbers tomorrow should lower it to somewhere between +3.5 and +3.6*C.

That's not bad going, but also seemingly nothing special; it's a little under half a degree short of the 7-day mean anomaly for the hot spell in July and almost identical to the value for the period 5th-11th June this year.

I say seemingly, because it's among the warmest last full weeks of August to have been recorded here in at least two decades. Closest contender is that of 2002.

Impressively, the signs of warm weather next week mean that a 10-day period with an anomaly of over +3*C ma be achieved. I have to go back to the sudden arrival of summer in the first half of May to beat that. Still a long way off the warmest 10-day period of the year, though, which spanned 24th January to 2nd February and came in at +5*C

Ah, but how does that compare to Dec 2015, I hear you ask? (!) ...  well, the month as a whole came in at +6.52*C so that already has it in the bag, but the period 17th-26th really takes the mickey, coming in at +7.07*C! Boxing Day registered at +9.27*C anomaly!

This has been a bit of a stats onslaught out of nowhere I know - but I thought it was a good way to hit home just how absurd Dec 2015 was

With the first wafts of SW'ly stirring outside to bring fresher air in it seems like a good time to reflect on what has been an impressive last five days.

Maxes as follows - 29.3, 31.5, 28.0, 25.1, 27.3

Mins as follows - 12.6, 20.2, 18.6, 16.7, 16.7

Max dewpoints have been a real feature of this spell - 18c,19c,21c,19c,21c.

Considering at this relatively coastal location our average is 20.8c by day and 13.8c overnight in late August the above stats have been impressive to say the least !

A mean of 22.53c compared with our usual 17.3c.

Today the Belgian Met Office officially declared a heatwave. Once again today temps hit 35c which is twice this week. Other days saw 34c.

Currently at 2250 local time  my indoor temp is 29c. Upon leaving downtown Leuven 30 mins ago the air temp was 28c.

Over Liege at the moment there is a spectacular strom passing through.

August 2016 is possibly not going to eclipse the amazing month that was August 2009, but this hot spell has certainly been  Kent Summer Weather at its very best IMHO.
