If this is what masquerades as "winter" in the UK these days, then I think for cold and snow lovers the game is up!! We are visiting from France as we have lived there since 2014. We have had a four week stay in North Kent and Southampton and apart from a few sunny days and minimal frosts, it has been unrelentingly dull and mild. It is just so grey and dank here! Everything feels damp to the touch outside!
Is this really the best the UK can hope for now?
Our friends who live in Creuse in Central France (Limousin) have just been forecast a week of snow next week!! Proper winter weather.
With a warming trend in the climate, I think the only hope the UK has (particularly the south) for another proper winter spell such as December 2010 is for the Gulf stream to shut down!! It really is getting that bad!!
Saw a photo of Ben Nevis on FB earlier today, taken yesterday. Virtually no snow on the North Face...in January on Britains highest point??
Grim days for coldies!!
Well i would agree with you. In my lifetime winters have definitely got warmer . Even down here we would have days of rain turning to wet snow and occasionally dry powder snow with daytime sub zero temps, Very rare now and this current spell of mild damp , foggy weather is truly revolting with, like you say every surface damp and slimy. Temps currently 9 c in Altnaharra, 10 c St. Catherines Point .. 8th January 2017 Winter. Well anything cooler is goint to seem cold . Forecaster just said "chance of hill snow" next week .You got to laugh
