Where's this mild weekend then? Currently 4c here, I was promised 10c on Saturday. Bloody mild spells, always get downgraded when they finally arrive.

Still warmer than normal? does nothing to prove your claim that the Atlantic has not warmed at all.

I shall consider your 'Wikipedia' page on storms, even if it means stooping to such a low level to do so. God, I'm such a snob.. but needs must.

Meanwhile, this winter appears to be something of an exception with regards North Atlantic storm activity.   Which most will say is a good thing and nothing to be moaning about

I wanted to start a separate thread but didn't think it's worth it.

Just hearing that my friend in Vlore - Albania are snowed in - Usually, January their average is around 13c. Moscow had a daytime high of -25c today and it has been the coldest max for many years. Athens's it's snowing there as we speak at 0c. SO glad my friends are enjoying the sunny & warm weather they went off in search for! NOT! - They are back tomorrow to a mild 12c from a daytime high of 0c and heavy snow in Athens. Yesterday, the temperature never rose above -1c in Amsterdam and there was light snow on and off all day I heard.

Also My friends near Roma - has had some ice and frost lasting all day. It's also frustratingly annoying to see New York once again get snowed in at -7c max when we are the only part of the Northern Hemisphere that is in a heat wave. - Look at NYC Times Square live webcam:

http://www.earthcam.com/usa/newyork/timessquare/?cam=tsrobo3

Where do we go from here!? - Let's face it....BRITISH WEATHER SUCKS!

On a side note- there is definitely a connection between a mild UK/ Ireland - means a colder SE Europe and N. America.

Is it just our luck!?

My travels all involve wolves, but it seems that subconciously I've picked places that also have snow. Funny that!

Valuable short days being wasted, more than half the winter gone (for the south) -and just two frosts! ... we had more in November!...and I have never cut the grass at Christmas, as I did this year....utter garbage!

Well it maxed out at 6.5c here. I'd got the rotary clothes line out and everything on the basis of my 10c forecast.

Another thing that grinds my gears' is that (like Matt Taylor) - Helen Willett's on BBC weather for the week ahead, talks of less cold weather - even before this so called 'cold snap' has even arrived. It's like they are more confident on it turning milder with cloud wind and rain than any frost or snow etc. - Well that's after watching the week ahead weather.

This "cold snap" that is forecast for the end of the week should be called a "cool snap", as temps barely get below zero, and no snow is expected to fall in my location, (according to the BBC online that is).

If this is what masquerades as "winter" in the UK these days, then I think for cold and snow lovers the game is up!! We are visiting from France as we have lived there since 2014. We have had a four week stay in North Kent and Southampton and apart from a few sunny days and minimal frosts, it has been unrelentingly dull and mild. It is just so grey and dank here! Everything feels damp to the touch outside!

Is this really the best the UK can hope for now?

Our friends who live in Creuse in Central France (Limousin) have just been forecast a week of snow next week!! Proper winter weather.

With a warming trend in the climate, I think the only hope the UK has (particularly the south) for another proper winter spell such as December 2010 is for the Gulf stream to shut down!! It really is getting that bad!!

Saw a photo of Ben Nevis on FB earlier today, taken yesterday. Virtually no snow on the North Face...in January on Britains highest point??

Grim days for coldies!!

Well i would agree with you. In my lifetime winters have definitely got warmer . Even down here we would have days of rain turning to wet snow and occasionally dry powder snow with daytime sub zero temps, Very rare now and this current spell of mild damp , foggy weather is truly revolting with, like you say every surface damp and slimy. Temps currently 9 c in Altnaharra, 10 c  St. Catherines Point .. 8th January 2017 Winter. Well anything cooler is goint to seem cold . Forecaster just said "chance of hill snow" next week .You got to laugh LaughSick
