I would say the sun actually feels close to skin-blistering outside; I sat outside working for 15 minutes shirt-free (probably not good for the environment!) and have darkened further. Even Reading (inland) had recorded 5.8 and rising before 1pm (highest UV of the year). Interesting how we get these local variations on different days- ozone depletion, humidity differences, local patchy cloud etc.

Lovely today! I ain't half got a tan today, so finally I don't look like a pastey-white ghost... at least not until the misery season descends once again.

5.9 in Reading; no sun here! London, however, had a pace-making 6.9+ (not quite 7) so in this air-mass, all that sun must have done something to the temps too.

4.0 today; even this I find surprising: Reading, being further north, has maybe experienced an earlier clearance. The rain has not long gone from here.

5.6 yesterday. (London values)The next week or so, if current models are right, will produce widespread sevens and we might even get an early 8. Let's see.

Reading had a 4.7 peak at about 12. Much cloudier further south.

The link has been defaulting to London recently- so I've edited today's reading for Reading. Sorry about that- could be yesterday too. Still interesting, but I will check the location each post for consistency.

Some parts of Devon & Cornwall have UV8 forecast for Friday. Its the first 8 i've seen for Torquay this year. I think that's about as high as it can get in the UK.

We can get into the high 8's in extreme cases around a fortnight either side of June 21's - UV 8.9 is the highest I've seen the local station I use have and that was a few years back. Most years the peak index is between 8.2-8.5 occurring normally a hand full of days.

Oddly the highest index so far this year has only been a 6.4 😕

Reading managed a 9.6 in June 2000 (see post #1). Exceptionally dry air that day.

Hit an index of 7.7 today...

The first time this year my local station has hit let alone exceed a 7 ✌️

This interesting link gives a UV reading in Reading in June 2000 (this was, admittedly, a notable dry air high UV event) of about 9.6. Reading is some distance inland away from the S coast where higher UV indices are often recorded. There are other events I am sure if anyone has the time to scroll through the site.

A peak UV of just 0.7 at the end of May is truly remarkable.

At the high end, these are the only days with 7.5 (rounded 😎 or higher since June 2005:
