Well I suppose my snow drought of seven years is over as we’ve managed to maintain a thin patchy crust of slush over a 24 hour period, if this is all we see this winter which is highly probable then I’ll consign this winter to the dustbin of history. 😜

This is the only thread where I properly feel right at home in.

After that bright interlude, it's gone all dark and gusty again with spitty rain. 8.3 C.

Been snowing here for 7 hours now and none on ground at all anymore, the few patches on roofs now melted #if only colder
Very frustrating as so close

Complete snow free zone here in Chichester..πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ but totally unsurprising ...a pretty horrid, windy wet day...temperature has been up and down like a yo-yo..but rain all the way!but nothing surprising really about that..and it is genuinely good to hear snow reports not a million miles from here.. in younger days I might have leapt into my car and headed north....not these days though! Simply can’t be axxxd...

I can't complain about it being cold just now since we have just had our first official ice day of the season so far here in Edinburgh (my only complaint about this winter in that regard is that our temperature anomalies for this month are still running warmer than average in spite of that). This is probably just about enough for me to not be able to go around telling everyone that it's not been much of a winter as has been the case in every other winter from 2013/14 onwards. However, the lack of snow in this part of the world is really letting this winter down badly for me because for me, this winter will never be complete until we finally get that f*@king snow!!

Surely it’s a bit premature for this given its only 10th December!

Anyway, those damned pesky winds which have been the curse of many nights during this winter so far are back again and because of that, the temperatures as at 8pm tonight have now gone back up to -4.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -5°C at Edinburgh Airport and -4.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. That is unlikely to be enough to spoil our official ice day, but this is probably now enough to scupper our chances of seeing minus double figures temperatures at Edinburgh Airport for the first time this season. To be honest, I've just lost count of the number of times what that stupid wind has prevented the temperatures from dropping as low as it could because that has just happened far too often for my liking.

Worst day of weather watching I can recall. Makes me wonder if it isn't a mug's game living here. Might as well either go somewhere hot all year round or somewhere where you are guaranteed a cold, snowy winter. What's the point of living somewhere where you rarely get any decent summer weather and end up playing a lottery that you often lose when it comes to snow in the winter?

Pathetic.

Didn't you get 3-4 inches of snow last week Nick? On average you will get more snow than most of lowland England .

Although I do understand your frustration and feel it too on missing out on something historic.

Aside from that, when this region gets snow, it's usually in synoptics where not many other places do. Looking at us from other regions isn't that tough, then, as we're often the only ones. Compare with when other places gets snow (usually inbound systems from the W, which have given the events of significance since 2010): we get to sit by while the vast majority of the country (England) gets plastered. I can tell you, the latter scenario is far more of a kick in the balls than the former.

Days like today I have to remind myself that Chichester has a great summer climate!!! I have known worse...when parts of West Sussex get snow and we still get none...atleast we won’t have to go through that horrible slushy period of melting snow! Seriously though, great to see parts of southern England &Wales getting plastered by the white stuff.
