Not the same kind of unusual event as the incredible stuff in the SW, but I went out and about in the North Pennines today. From the foothills to about 1500 ft, so not as high as I could have gone, but anyway...

It's strange here how little drifting there is anywhere a bit sheltered.
On the ridge by the village they really caught it though, and 8" of snow on the fields all ended up in gardens and on the road but nothing was cut off more than 24 hours.
Speaking to the snowplough man the moor roads aren't as bad as some lower down where it has packed between hedges and walls.

Great photos Nick. I like the road to Blanchland and its name makes me wonder if it has a long history of such white conditions!

It's a beautiful village as well.

That looks lovely. It’s a very nice part of the world that I really need to explore more (although perhaps not for a few days!)

Love the pictures Nick, especially the one with the icicles.

Time to think of the many people who live their lives and earn their living in areas where the climate can produce these sort of conditions. Hannah Hauxwell was buried last month.

There had been a lot of melt in the 5 days it took me to get to the High(er) Pennines. But here are some from there (car number plate airbrushed out - it's not actually like that!):
