A detestable overcast cold and miserable day. It tried to brighten up but failed and it's now only 13.8C. To say I'm hacked off is an understatement. This spell has been utter crap for here - pretty much not been able to enjoy any sun since Monday

Already 28.7 degC in Exminster (3 miles S of Exeter) at 1200 BST! We have already exceeded the highest for July 2006 (28.7) twice in July 2013 (7th, 8th both 29.0). This looks like it could challenge the highest since I have recorded here which was the 10th Aug 2003 (31.5). Absolutely stifling heat and light NE'lies off the baking land mass. So much hotter than yesterday, and very well forecast!

Sunny, 22.6C. The temperature's gone down a degree or so over the last hour as cooler air wafts in from the sea.

Lots of badly shielded thermometers out there in people's gardens today! Mind you, the pros aren't immune either (24C dewpoint at Church Fenton - yeah, right, more like their wick's dry!)

Talking of which, down to 21.8C now with a gentle but persistent breeze. I daresay the beach, a mile away, will be absolutely heaving today!

Slowly trying to brighten up as the mist and low cloud gradually thins out but the sky is still looking pale rather than blue. It's also still too chilly to want to sit outdoors at 17.1 C along with a noteable onshore breeze.
