Some amazing echoes right now to the south of London (heading NE'wards) - the 7:10 radar image shows two gridpoints with 150 to 200mm/hour rainfall rates. Heavy hail, perhaps?

EDIT: And the 7:05 image has 11 (count 'em, 11!) gridpoints that are off the scale, >250mm/hour rates. There'll be some interesting scenes there I'd imagine...

Certainly a thundery looking sky here. Some bright towers, dark bases, mammatus visible. But so far just a couple of rumbles to my east

Coming over quite dark grey with occasional deep booming thunder being heard (we had a quick power shower from the "leading" shower cloud about half an hour ago). A shame it isn't night time, though.

UPDATE: Just seen a huge forked lightning flash by as I was typing this, off to spectate.

Looking at the radar tracks Ian, I think I'm going to get your cast-offs, about 30 mins after you've discarded them!

White echo heading to Ewell area and I am sure it passed but the Chessington and Epsom weather stations did not record any rain yet.  Anaorop?

Looks like North West Kent/East Surrey is copping it at the moment as the lot trundles towards London, though.

The big mass of thunderstorms over the south east can't be more than a mile to my west. I can see the very angry looking storm clouds and hear thunder as well as a few flashes of ligntning. So close!

Earlier I noticed two thunderstorms pass either side of me. The gap between them was right over me.

Rochester is such a frustrating place to live weatherwise!

Woah. Big forked lightning that looked like it hit the ground in the distance.

Yep, it's all sliding past to my east.

All hell breaking loose round here - thunder and lightning all around but at a distance and not overhead.

Thanks John, the level of sferics activity in your region is very impressive currently

Almost continuous but very distant rumbling and dark sky to my East this morning.

Here, a few drops of rain early on and that's been it.

Quite amusing that the Met office covered parts of East Anglia and the south east in warnings for Thunderstorms only to remove those warnings yesterday yet those areas have been hit by thunderstorms.

Narrow band of black clouds have developed here in the past hour, not much rain getting to the ground as yet despite strong radar returns.
