No, it's not a ramp or a winter post but just a little interesting (IMO) fact. Unless I have missed an earlier one the latest mountain forecast for the Cairngorm National Park has the first mention of snow of the new "season" (on Saturday, the 31st). Nothing unheard of but if you're mourning the lack of winter here's a forecast that mentions snow 😝

Now don't all jump in your cars and rush to Cairngorm [sn_bsmil]

This post is not a ramp, just an observation for anyone who may be interested. 😄

I think it's on the earlyish side. I have been up there before at the start of September and observed snow falling but I do think it is earlier than most years (if it happens of course!)

Before anyone suggests it, it is of no significance or indication of what to expect for the coming winter.

You're not that far away. Your task is to go there and photograph yourself making snowballs [sn_bsmil]

I shall still be sunning myself in the relatively tropical Aberdeen. It's a bit like Cyprus, snow in the mountains and warm sunshine by the beach [sn_clown]

(OK maybe not [sn_blush] )

Thing is the forecast says ' a little wet snow'. When the BBC say that about a particular city, they usually mean cold rain, with sleetiness only observable to the most extreme obsessive weather watchers.

The MWIS is not for the popular masses in low lying areas, it is there to provide a service to those wish to know what the conditions will be on the mountains, and it does an excellent job of it IME. So I would take a little wet snow on the tops as meaning exactly that.

just to be clear.. is this a ramp or not?

Do agree with Michael though, MWIS are one of the most reliable in terms of forecasts in my experience..  never leave for the hills without checking with thier view of what the weather will do

Sleet over 4,000ft certainly a possibility this weekend     Can't see anything settling though.

There was snow forecast at the end of August last year and in 2011 quite a bit lying on the ground in the 'Gorms before the start of September - so, as a Welsh guy once said, it's not unusual......

There was snow for the highest Scottish mountains at the end of that amazing August of 1995
