Poor air quality aside, it has been a reasonable day in terms of varied high cloud amounts and hazy sunshine. It enabled temperatures to reach a maximum of 16.1 C at 4 pm even though winds has been a gentle south east. It does seem that the Channel/Strait of Dover has much less of a cooling effect this time round.

For the record, today seemed utterly bizzare here.

The maximum temperature was some 4*C above average, yet the sun only fleetingly made itself known as a faint hazy presence. It was also very muggy.

Combined with an insane amount of insects, it felt like one of those late May/early June days where you hope for a bit of sun because you know the temperature would shoot up, with a decent chance of evening thunder.

This is turning into a highly unusual April - usually at this time of year there are crisp, clear skies and air that requires plentiful sunshine to achieve temperatures at or above the LTA. There's even been an unusual number of quite calm days.
