REPORT Summer 2014 will go down as a changeable one split into two thirds decent and one third poor. The first two months offered nearly all of the Summer weather this year with a lot of settled and dry weather with some warm sunshine interspersed by slightly more in the way of thundery activity this year than in recent years when the wettest day of the Summer at 34.4mm of rain occurred on the 19th July. This was all part of mid July giving us the most active thunderstorms with some lively lightning at close range on the 18th July. Temperatures were OK in June and July with 30C narrowly missed this year making just 29.3C on July 26th as the seasons high. At the other end of the scale the coldest night remarkably achieved a valley frost with 2-7C recorded on the morning of the 24th August with the whole month of August much cooler than average coming in at 2.2C below the average at 14.4C. Sunshine amounts overall were much up to par helped by the High pressure based conditions of June and July while August helped knock this average back somewhat as it was a cloudier than average month. There were no unusual weather phenomena either reported seen or witnessed over the area with the exception of a funnel cloud over Nunney within the stormy conditions in mid July.
