I wrote an article on winter 1890-91 some years ago but just looking specifically at the start of this winter is very interesting because it came on abruptly, it must have been a real shock.
A very cold pool of air dragged across the UK as the trough of low pressure sank southwards.
It went from very mild to bitter cold within a week.
Camden Square recorded a maximum of 14.5C on the 23rd, recorded a minimum of -6.2C on the 29th
