Looks like it will become harder to record over National Trust places as they seem to have put in place a blanket ban on flying drones.

One glaring loophole though is that they don't seem to mind para gliders. And many para gliders use cameras to record a flight and are arguably more disruptive to people on the ground?

So ironically although you can write an article about National Trust people and property and sell it, you are not able to make images (photographic, paintings, sketches etc) with the intention to sell without written permission.

Cynics might conclude that they are attempting to maximise the profits on their own publications depicting the beauty of these sites

Lawyers might ask how much of the air above their land do they own or have the right to control

IMO The National Trust are shooting themselves in the foot by trying to control the visual aesthetics of their properties when seen in the media. For example someone is planning an article on some aspect of the Trust lets say at Ringstead Bay in Dorset. Words are fine but when it comes to sourcing a suitable image all they will have to choose from if they are to follow the  NT regulations are the pictures in the National Trust Image Library. Not a wide ranging choice. If you were looking for one with say a happy family enjoying themselves there are none. However there are numerous images elsewhere or you could shoot them yourself if you were able to without breaking the NT rules.

The second paragraph. There has never been a court case to test this angle as far as I can see. I don't think the NT or anyone is brave enough to test it but I would for one one love to see it explored a bit more. If anyone is interested the late Fay Godwins book Our Forbidden Land is as topical today as it was when it was first published.

Sea Fog encroaching towards the moors this morning about 6:30am - looking North

Couple of interesting points; the line of fog encroaching much further inland in the middle distance and what looks like a convective element further away to the right of centre.

The ground is so unusually parched, so unusually early- if you fly any images over the next week, I'd be curious to see what the ground looks like.

Just before the rain started two weeks ago, this was revealed - which explains the astonishing  network of fields.
It is thought they only used a few of the fields at any time  to grow beans, oats and rye or barley for their own use.
After three crops the field would be exhausted and left fallow for grazing several years to recover.

The round house enclosure was less obvious previously but can be made ut when you have seen this last shot literally 30 minutes before the rain. Two days later it had practicaly disappeared again and now the fields have their normal green back.



I wondered if one or both oval shapes by the road could be manmade fishponds.
The larger shape left side is just natural different soil type.

Very nice Autumnal colors and pleasing to the eye .
