It is official, I witnessed proper snow this morning. None of that searching like a maniac for a wet splodge on the windscreen or a stray flake in the rain, like I have been doing the past week or so. This was proper snow, lovely white fluffy flakes, and over parts of the downs there was even the thinnest of icing sugar dustings - how desperate am I...............

One of the very few occasions the weather can actually be described as 'wintry showers' rather than rain/sleet/wet snow e.c.t. Showers always start out as rain or sleet, often become snow.

4.0C (or thereabouts) and overcast with occasional light drizzle showers. Frequent onshore breezes and patchy cloud cover prevented a hard frost here last night. All in all a pretty grim day!

Despite some low stratus and a northerly breeze last night, we have managed a hard and widespread frost as temperatures still crept down to 0.1 C just before dawnbreak.

Now becoming clear with some sunshine (that's better!).

Although it is a bit on the nippy side at 4.2 C with a moderate northerly breeze adding a chill to it and indeed we had quite a decent air frost first thing morning, I'm not seeing that much in the way of ice around here at the moment.

The precip type radar is remarkable, all the showers are showing rain/snow for the NE and that is true to what is happening. I've seen rain, snow and everything in between today. Currently lightly snowing.

-0.5C, mostly clear skies but the leading edge of the approaching Atlantic frontal system is now visible on the western horizon - how quickly that advances will determine how low the temperature goes tonight ...
