Just wondering what's with the rapid temperature rise here and if any other parts of the country is experiencing this!? It was 3.0c at 10am and now the temperature has risen 6.5c and it's not even 11am - the rise in temperature of 3.5c is less than half an hour and under the cloud is quite remarkable? - especially given the fact that there is cloud cover already. We never even woke up to a frost either. I understand there is milder weather on the way but what's with the rapid rise in air temperature and are any of you experiencing this? It is winter still and not spring or summer in strong sun? I was just shocked at how mild it has become in less than an hour? Just as I type it has risen to 7.1c.

I remember something similar on Boxing day 2014 when it warmed up from 0c to 8c with heavy rain (snow in Sheffield). But this took the whole day not a jump of some 3 or 4.0c within less than an hour.

Look out further east I think this temperature rise will very rapidly melt any snow that begins to settle,

Does this mean warmer uppers air aloft?

Kew weather station was -4.7C at 07:00 and still only -2.0C at 10:00 so no rapid rise in these parts

Largest rise I ever seen was during Dec 2010 cold spell when it dropped to -13.3C by 3am then cloud came for no reason and by 9am it was above freezing, if the clouds didn't come it would be estimated temps by 8am would had been at least -16C to -18C which one place in Surrey did reach this magical temps that is 0F on that spell.

I, too, have observed a sudden jump in temperatures this morning where it went from -1.2 C with a hard air frost (even under overcast skies) at 6.30 am to 3.4 C by 8.30 am and all the frost was gone by then. I had attributed it to our wind becoming a moderate south thus pulling in some warmth in from the Channel.
However, by 9 am, we did have a cheeky flurry but it didn't last long as the snow become more restricted to then thar hills to the north of my town while staying as cold rain here on the coast for the rest of the day - which was to be expected with such a marginal set up anyway.
And when the temperature did reach 3.4 C by 8.30 am, it had remained locked in that value all day and is still at 3.4 C as I type this at 5 pm.
