So we are all but guaranteed to reach 1048mb, that is only 6mb under the all time record set in January 1902, Aberdeen at 1054mb (surface equivalent). Over the next few days the pressure will rise above 1044mb for some places and remain there for several days. This is the best opportunity in years to break the record and I think we will do. For Ireland the record is 1051mb, I think this one is perhaps even more likely to fall.

Currently the high is 1039mb in Northern Ireland.

I do recon we will get above 1045mb though, the models will tend to underestimate the maximun pressure by 2-3mb at the least so that takes us up to 1049mb conservative; 2mb shy of the record.

In all seriousness, fair play to you Q, as there's nought much else of interest to look forward to weather-wise at the moment.

Not sure how the Express can spin this one into an impending national catastrophe though - perhaps if the High shows signs of rapidly declining they can warn of masses of people inundating already over-stretched hospital A&Es suffering from the bends.
