Posted this before, 20th anniversary today.

Anyone remember this event? It was gloriously sunny and hot that Friday in Manchester. The sun was really blazing down and the maximum that day was 29C. By evening, the temperature had markedly drop even though it was still sunny and it felt notably chilly with that breeze. The maximum the following day was 19C.

The temperature dropped over 10C in two hours in some places.

Another memorable event from a great year and memorable summer.

Certianly remember it, good hot sunny spell at end of June followed by some rather chilly and gusty easterly winds!

I remember well. We were sat outside a pub in the Midlands after a baking day, and in the course of half an hour it turned completely.

The remarkable thing was it was a totally dry change.

I also remember the sea breeze front article in Weather. One of those weather moments that really sticks in the memory.

I remember that very well - Can't believe that is 20 years ago now.

I remember this so well only because I was invited to a BBQ near Kirkby Stephen at the foot of the Pennines.

All day the weather had been glorious and very warm with a maximum of 28.3c set Penrith.

At 5pm I set off east towards Kirkby Stephen but straight away I could see the cloud building towards the east and the temperature began to drop.

By the time I reached KS the temperature was just 18c and with a strong east wind and cloud cover it was to cold to eat outside.

After a week of hot weather it was a real bummer!

A think a weak cold front must have moved west as the temperature fell 10c in two hours between 1800 and 2000.

Sea breeze front.

Read all about it here:

Amazing how a 2 hour phenomenon, just involving a bit of cloud and a change of temperature, with no catastrophic damage, injury or loss of life, remains ingrained in the memory of so many of us.

For me it's about time of life. I was 18, just finished A Levels, and those few weeks between school and university are always remembered with a clarity later events aren't. I could recount to you pretty much to the week how that summer's weather unfolded from April to late August and could quote word for word several country-file forecast opening sentences. Now I struggle to recall what the weather was like 2 weeks ago.

I remember this time very well. There wasn't much of an impact here, as we had sea breezes pegging the max temperature to only 21 C, but did notice it turned fresher in the evening. I did hear about the marked temperature drop elsewhere.

It was a weak cold front passing from the north, but grinded to halt in the English Channel. The front, in fact, pepped up and briefly returned NE'wards on Sunday, bringing thundery rain later for E Anglia and the SE (not forecast at the time), before it finally cleared eastwards by Monday.

2003 was really a summer for the South East of England, plus Aberdeenshire. 1995 was country-wide and probably most anomalous in the North and West.

Most of the country stayed green throughout 2003 until mid August, but the London area and Kent went brown by early July and stayed that way, and it just remained constantly reasonably warm.

But it bears no comparison with 1995 on a countrywide basis. The closest contender since 1995 would be 2006, which went horribly wrong in August.

Yeah 2003 was a dud here. I mean, it was pleasant enough - but none of the record breaking heat the SE saw. Here, August 1990 still retains the heat record, though yesterday would have certainly come close if Leeds Weather Centre was still open.
