I~ have a new gripe moan.. Its when you are experiencing one sort of weather in your area , and the met office /TV weather forecaster says no your experiencing something different.. Let me explain,, today over Hampshire and most of Central and Southern England ,It was bright , lots of blue or bright sky and very mild at 12-14 degc - I know because i drove for Leicester to my home near Romsey. However listen to the met weather forecast , today has been dull lots of low cloud with drizzle and occasional rain in fact a pretty crap day and there is more to come . Now i don't mind when they get the forecast wrong maybe, but to get the current conditions wrong is unforgivable!

The horror show rolls on and on with another 3mm of crap today. Now had as much rain this year as would be expected by the 1st week in April and the misery just goes on and on and on

Watched the weather for next week and it looks really disturbed and wet - Scottish ski resorts will do really well but for the rest of us!? Well? Can it really get this bad??? I mean really??

Looks like a weekend of southerly-type gales faces me - the only kind of weather we seem to be so good at, and yet it's my least liked weather type (the last gale knackered my back yard fence).
And they all are expected to occur at night time over the weekend. Why is it that the strongest winds always seem to occur when it's all dark where it "sounds" more louder and I can hear things breaking or clattering but can't tell where it's coming from, so have to wait until dawnbreak to find out.

Further outlook is looking rather uninspiring. I'm ready to throw in the towel to be honest.

Maybe March will deliver?

Is it me or is every chance of a drier spell is getting downgraded now? Forget the cold spell - it will NEVER happen! But now looks like there will only be one dry day next week!? WEDNESDAY! This will mean by tomorrow - this drier' day will be replaced by more wind and rain ETC!

At least during the mild winter of 2013/14 we had a weeks worth of dry and frosty weather even if it didn't snow! During the last strong El Nino winter of 1997/98 - we also saw a good 5 - 7 days of dry, cold weather with some harsh frosts as well as snow in southern England (albeit very wet snow). - It wasn't until April when we saw (Southern UK) saw a dumping of very wet snow on two occasions. BUT I don't want snow in April...do you!? - It never lasts anyway!!

Hong Kong has had colder winter days than many parts of southern England, Taipei - Taiwan (subtropical climate has had more snow than Wales or the SOUTH of England).

Is it now fair to write this winter off as the worst ever in living memory!?

Seems any decent charts are in the minority and FI - they never seem to get close enough - always eye candy and nothing more. We are fast running out of time but for most of us we're already looking forward to spring now

Yesterday we had 3 hours of drier weather in the afternoon and it felt pleasantly mild and this afternoon we had 4 hours of drier weather. - Even though it was clouding over! It's not so much days of drier weather it's hours - I mean it's got so crap (like what like next week will be like) that we will only have a 6-10 hours of drier weather at the max perhaps 12 hours if we are lucky!

Well as this is the moaning AND gloating thread, I'm going to gloat.
Have had a spectacularly wonderful 6 weeks in Australia where I saw not a drop of rain and blue skies throughout. I've swum with dolphins, visited the barrier reef, seen the penguins of Philip Island and climbed mountains. Even managed to witness a spot of snow on top of Mount Hotham - this in the middle of summer. A wonderful climate which to me is the best in the world. Where I'm staying is an hour from the Southern Alps so even in winter time I'd be just an hour from the guaranteed snow. It's been amazing and beautiful. Such an inspiring country and to escape the never ending Autumn dirge of a UK sunless winter I can heartily recommend saving up and migrating south for the winter.
Sadly it all comes to an end on Wednesday when I return to the land of the endless drizzle but sure as cloud follows cloud I will return.
It's been near on the perfect holiday. Never got too hot. The highest I saw was 35 which felt fine to me. On the hottest day I went down a gold mine so escaped it anyway.
The flakes of snow at the top of the mountain was a welcome bonus and the thunderstorms rumbling away in the distance over night at Newcastle were something to behold. Never seen so much lightning in my life but not a drop of rain fell.
Just perfect. 😊😊😊😊

If I was going to migrate anywhere for the winter it'd be to Canada, not Australia! Sounds like fun though.

If you're looking to escape a UK winter then Australia is a good place to go - considering its their summer - though I'd definitely stick close to the coast to avoid the seating outback heat. Definitely avoid Melbourne in winter though - you'll just be reminded of the weather back home with lots of cloud and drizzle. Even in the summer it's schizophrenic and all over the place - 40C one day, 18C the next. Beautiful city by all accounts though.

Personally, if I wanted to go to somewhere warm, I'd probably opt for Malta or southern Greece - mild and sunny, rather than hot and sunny, which I can do without.

Totally agree with you there. Family visiting has brought me here but for all my moaning and groaning England is home and after 6 weeks I'm just about ready to return.
It's been actually very very pleasant this visit. Never got too hot and in fact it's been pretty much like perfect English summer days every day.
Off to Melbourne tomorrow for my last three days but it's set fair so no schizophrenic weather to come.
Looking forward to the drizzle to be honest. 😂

Tacitcus writing in "Agricola" in 98 A.D about the British climate: "Their sky is obscured by continual rain and cloud. Severity of cold is unknown."

Some things stay the same don't they?

Torrents of rain here since this morning, over 2 inches already with some local flooding reported.

Yet another total write-off of a Saturday. Grey, depressing windy crap with wind coming out of the most rancid direction again. Rain just started and 4.9C

This is just unreal and the lack of snow pales into insignificance compared to the continuance of this revolting weekend weather. After such a horrendous run of Saturdays you'd expect a brilliant run to compensate but that never happens. Once a horrific pattern emerges it just gets entrenched and impossible to shift

These crap Saturdays have been an ongoing feature for over 2 years and have become even worse since Autumn with barely any sunny Saturdays since the beginning of September.

These stats showing how Saturday compares to weekdays are truly incredulous:

2014: Sun -92%, Rain - 121%

2015: Sun - 89%, Rain - 150%

2016: Sun - 85%, Rain - 108%

Absolutely disgusting for this rot to be maintained over such a prolonged period. If I had won that £33m jackpot I would leave this awful country never to return again. Just no quality of life at all in being stuck indoors continuously, never getting to enjoy days off because of perpetual vile weather plaguing the weekend
