Rain totals in NW England and NW Britain as a whole are insane. Going to get much worse too.

Its crazy how isolated all this rain has been. Been a dry day in the Wirral today... cloudy... but dry. Meanwhile - an hours drive in either direction - its been biblical.

This PWS at Ambleside has recorded 138mm today but it has almost stopped for now.
In fact the radar generally looks less angry over there since dark.

Note they've had more than 2000mm this year which is about 4 times what we've had!

Looks to be easing sooner than forecast which is good news. The record won't be broken though with 100 odd MM recorded will it?

The flood water from the River Kent in Kendal is now two doors down from our house as the flood defences breached big style at about 4pm.  The bottom of the road must be 1.5m deep.  8 houses completely flooded out.  Our neighbour who has lived in his house (now flooded) since 1965 has never seen anything like it.  Really quite scared.  Now getting blackouts as the power is affected.

My village of Plumpton now cut off by flood water on all sides, the River Petterill normally just 2 metres wide now extends across 200 meters of fields, many roads and houses flooded it really is desperate.

Average rainfall in December is 100mm and I have recorded that in 2 days.

Looks like some record breaking incidents are about to take place if they haven't already. I believe the 24 hour rainfall record is about  326 mm.

Is that record under threat anywhere.

River looking like its starting to break it's banks here - that's bad news for Cockermouth and Keswick.  Will be a few hours yet before the worst of it reaches here.

Good site here to see river levels:

I suspect a few of them on the Cumbrian rivers may cease to record permanantly today!

The actual lakes will still be filling, as the rivers flow into them, so the worst in some places still to come.

Good luck to all of you up there, in one of my favourite areas of the world.

Further south, we've seen the rainshadow from the N Wales mountains in full effect.

Just hope everyone saw it coming and got everything upstairs

This is the river up our road, one door from our house - still coming up.  We are about 3m above the river.  Neighbours in the 8 houses below have been flooded out.  Please keep your fingers crossed for us...  This is unprecedented.

Bagfish, that's really awful!  My thoughts are with you and everyone affected.  Stay safe!

It's amazing how so much rain can fall in one part of the country and none in another.  We haven't had a spot of rain today at all.
