So as not to clog up the MO thread...

I see more nonsense about Gooner being "driven away", "seen off", etc. Here's a link to the dialogue that's been twisted beyond belief:

http://www.theweatheroutlook.com/twocommunity/default.aspx?g=posts&t=15920&p=41

HTF anyone can turn that into the drivel that's being spouted once again, is utterly unbelievable

Hope that clears things up!

It has to be said that these frequent cool NW'ly polar maritime airmasses are bringing some delightfully clean air, low dewpoints and more in the way of sunshine. In fact today represents the third consecutive day where we experienced virtually maximum sunshine. I think we have to go back as far as early October to experience such a fine spell of weather.

The increasing solar energy is providing 8-10c even on the days when uppers are sub -5c. This warming trend is spreading northwards by the day now. In a week or so's time here on the south coast the rays will be strong enough again to start giving a slight glow on the face again.

18z rolling out and providing another spell of cool NW'lies after a wet Tuesday. Feeling warm  in the south with sunshine and shelter from the cool breeze.

To me it looks like Marcus has chosen not to post anymore after his JFF charts were slammed. He took it badly (see p42 of your link JB) and hasn't posted since.

It's a real shame as Marcus has a lot to offer the MO thread and has his own niche in there.

I agree he hasn't been 'driven off'. Gooner has chosen to stop posting, unfortunately.

Bertwhistle the charts have updated since posting so at the time it would have been the relevant chart.

Yes real shame Gooner has decided not to post since JFFGate hopefully he will return soon.

Over the years many members on TWO have been over sensitive, thrown their rattled out the pram and walked away, it's pathetic grown men acting like that.

I have taken loads of stick over the years, remember 'winter is over' but it never occurred to me not to post again, my God how do these people cope in life if a few words sends them heading for the hills!

Banter and even a bit of sarcasm and leg pulling is good for a 'message board' as long as it isn't over the top and IMO the TWO moderators do an excellent job making sure it doesn't.

Hopefully all those former TWO members who have been driven away by those horrible, nasty people on TWO will find comfort watching Teletubbies and Thomas The Tank! Lol

As for gooner and his JFF charts... (Just.For.Fun) If the comedian couldn't take some mild heckling then perhaps he shouldn't be a comedian??

If you post charts deep into FI that show a preferred outcome you're going to get flack.
Marcus knows this and qualifies his posts with JFF so I have no idea why he is upset especially as others whom he has taken exception to have not targeted him specifically in my view.
The practice of posting such charts still goes on now and will continue as is the nature of those seeking cold for much of the year and plumes in summer.
Having spent 11 years monitoring the M.O. thread this is handbags stuff compared to some of the things I've seen and a bit of feistiness although not helpful, can at least keep the thread alive.......which is why we have Daniel :0)

As soon as I saw this being a Jive Buddy thread and how he is well known for his puns, I can't tell if this is actually a JFF topic.

I'm a lazy sod and can't be bothered to go looking for the charts with my type of interest. For that reason Gooners input is missed and has made coming on TWO's Model thread almost pointless (for me). Also excassabated by a few other returnees who are, tbh, only here to wind up, period. This has meant that I finally joined the other side and may make even less of a contribution with what time I do have than before.

Incidentally, I'd be pretty chuffed if someone devoted an entire thread to me were I to leave!

I confess I may have started JFFgate but didn't say anything against the CoC. Infact I actually said I liked them. I too am bemused as to why Marcus has taken offence but each to their own and we're all free to choose when to post and when not to.

Do we know for certain Gooner has taken any offence? I've seen him take banter in good humour on other parts of the board many times. He never struck me as someone who's going flounce off.

Saying all that, there has undoubtedly at times this winter been an undercurrent of snideness from some quarters towards posters who have been looking for cold spells. It's almost like there was some agenda taking place, to sort of stand up against the general longing for cold/snowy weather that predominates TWO (and weather enthusiasts generally)

I've been on TWO for years, and have noticed there's people who post sort of rebuttals against cold prospects from a meteorological viewpoint (the "I don't think that will happen, and here's why" approach). Nothing at all wrong with that.

There's some who openly don't like cold/snow (the "I hope it doesn't do that" or "I'm relieved that didn't come off" approach), and again there's nothing wrong with tha (even if they are weird )

But then, every so often, there's a strand that appears that seems to take perverse pleasure in telling people a cold scenario won't come off. Or, when a forecasted cold spell doesn't pan out, they delight in that (often accompanied by a "I told you so" gloat)

It may be posting/writing style and I'm barking up the wrong tree, seeing something that isn't there.

But then I recall the Steve Murr episode in early December. Now Steve's undeniably a cold fan - an enthusiastic one. He also knows his onions. He explains why he thinks a certain scenario will evolve. Some might say he lets his cold preferences influence his forecasting. But he's someone whose knowledge makes sites like this what they are. He forecasted a particular evolution in Jan, which didn't quite turn out to be correct (although, it wasn't that far away in terms of the energy transfer E ->W toward Greenland; it's just that it didn't do so quite like it was forecasted by Steve, so the effect of our weather was different). anyway, my point is that he copped a lot of sneering stick - and it was from the direction of the members that I'd have bet my trousers would be the ones doing so.

I don't want to stifle debate but, when certain members persistently are the ones being obnoxiously snide toward knowledgeable posters, who then feel "what's the point?" and stop posting, the TWO community is worse off for it.
