Nighttime supercells in September would be quite something!

Not sure whether the chaps in this vid were brave or daft .. I would've ran for cover

Given it seems like we're on course to get a pretty warm September this year, one would hope that we can generate some decent instability and perhaps make up for some of the summer. Fingers crossed.

Already a small patch of altocumulus castellanus around here, and it's only 07:40. Looking fairly decent for this area.

It's just a shame I'll probably miss any storms, as I'm on lates this afternoon.

Some storms trundling north in the channel at the moment, SW England could see a few if they maintain integrity over next couple of hours.

Can't remember it being forecast.

Destabilisation of plume boundary propagating northward - expect storms to extend into Wales and NW England, S Scotland later today and this evening. Rogue storms firing to the east of this risk area also a possibility (W. Mids and Yorks) and if these can root then they are likely to be quite severe.

Very active storm over towards the west of the new forest - can see the stormy skies from here in Portsmouth.

I remember the Beeb last night mentioned the risk of the odd heavy shower that way, and with me planing to go to brockenhurst today I've been monitoring. I changed plans 😉

Giving the winds are SE here and temps in the mid 20's I'm not surprised the storms have really kicked off over that way!

I've just got home from work and the wife tells me they'd just had a cracking thunderstorm with a lot of forked lightning and booming thunder, I missed it all and didn't even see or hear any of it, damn.

Electrical activity has died away here .. been monitoring it on the AM radio and Blitzortung isn't registering all of the discharges, probably because the recent activity was intra-cloud from decaying cells. Very murky here but no rain as yet.

Edit: 1600 BST .. Murky .. loud clap of thunder just to SW

Edit: 1614 BST .. Recent short downpour with massive drops .. 3 rumbles from this but Blitzortung registered just one. Amazing how quickly this shower developed .. just a few minutes to form and over 'in a flash'

alot of seeds of storms now appearing over east wales area. Moving north.

Potential for some decent storms to emerge out of this new pulse emerging from the south... eyes peeled on the radar.
