Just seen on bbc weather a high off 34.4 today gravesend Kent . Hottest September day since 1911 and hottest day off the year so far 😳

Hi John! I've got fans whirring away and windows wide open to try and at least keep the house aired out as much as I can as the sun swings around to the front of the house at about now. The saving grace is that the sun sets at something like 7.30 pm as the darker nights draw in but it's still going to be a close and muggy night tonight anyway.

I can imagine Retron cursing the 20 C at the 850 hpa level.

In stow on world raining and t storm and meant to be I broken sunshine this weather system has also moved a long way east so yet again the weathermen get it wrong tomorrow doubtless the same

Hottest weather was over in the east, with a max of only 27 here; 25 now with patchy cloud, but unlike other posters' observations, it's really humid here, possibly due to two afternoon showers. In the second of these, about 3pm, the temperature rose during the shower from 25.3 to 26.6. I think that's worthy of note, but it is not notable when we think of this amazing September heat elsewhere: 1906 and 1911 EYHO. This is modern and accurate by today's standards.
