Stelvio is pretty deep this year, after a slow start with some traffic into December, a large drift formed in front of the buildings, then there seems to have been maybe two metres more.
At one point you couldn't see the top of the ground floor shutters but it has settled down quite a bit.

It may be cool here for this bank holiday weekend but at least we don't have snow, unlike Geiranger in Norway!

It was all lovely & green there on the 1st May, grey & wet on the 2nd & now it's covered in snow & looking very wintery instead of spring.

At least the first big cruise ship had lovely weather.

I found a new Stelvio Cam, they are having problems - it will usually be open in May.
They have had to track over snow at second floor level and are using 360 excavators combined with bulldozers to shove huge amounts of snow down the sides.

Tromso at 69N and 3 degrees into the arctic circle is enjoying 24 hour daylight at the moment.

Worth a look. The time lapse is impressive too.

Good view from that cam. Like it better than the harbor cam.

Some exptionally cold conditions at Geirangerfjord cruise port. Temp down to -11C and I think night minima have been in minus double digits for some days now. You can see ice forming on the fjord. Quite remarkable as I don't think you would expect sea ice to form at that location at any time during an aerage winter, let alone during the first half of November.
And to think it was only a couple of weeks ago the cruise season finished!

I've seen frozen sea on the north coast of Holland back in February 1986 whilst on a school geography trip! Pretty cool to witness

That said, it may be the sea but it is well inland (if that makes sense!) and will be extremely well well sheltered compared to a normal coastline and won't be subjected to the same waves and tides.

Yesterday evening I was ‘skyping’ with friends in Calgary which was midday local time. I asked about the weather and it was -9C and snowing! In April.

A very snowy Easter Sunday at the Santa Claus village in Finland. Previously, the snow cover here had showed some signs of thawing.

It will be interesting to see if Stelvio simply thaws away naturally this year.
http://www.solda2000.com/webstelvioen.htm
The buildings will need access for maintenance and could be partially open by mid-summer perhaps.
