All of the above data is taken from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) wherever possible, but also from weathercast.co.uk (as data from SEPA still hasn't been updated since 11pm on 23 December 2020) and is for up until 09:00 UTC (9am GMT) on 21January 2021.

This Month's data runs from 09:00 UTC (9am GMT) on 1 January 2021.

Minimum requirements for this month to be met between 09:00 UTC (9am GMT) on 21 January 2021 and 09:00 UTC (9am GMT) on 1 February 2021.

This winter's data runs from 09:00 UTC (9am GMT) on 1 December 2020.

Minimum requirements for this winter to be met between 09:00 UTC (9am GMT) on 21 January 2021 and 09:00 UTC (9am GMT) on 1 March 2021.

This year's data runs from 09:00 UTC (9am GMT) on 1 January 2021.

LTA = 1981-2010 average for the month, season or year in question at that particular station.

With still over a  monto go until the end of this winter, there has already been more rain during this winter at the botanic gardens in Edinbgurgh than the 1981-2010 winter average for that particular station which means that regardless of what hannens ther between now and the end of this winter, this winter will now go down as being wetter than average there overall in terms of the actual rainfall amount.

A lot of the precipitation over the last 24 hours has fallen as snow which means that the actual totals are likely to be even higher than what has been reported here as we won't know what the rainfall equivalent of that be until this snow melts.

This means that there is a good chance that the botanic gardens in Edinburgh might already have had more than its 1981-2010 January average amount of rain during this month as only a very small amount of rain is required to get over that finishing line as it stands, and quite a lot of anow did fall overnight.

This this has been quite a cold month overall, you would normally expect it to be fairly dry as well. However, that isn't actually the case and in fact, this has turned out to be another wet winter month overall.

LTA = 1981-2010 average for the month, season or year in question at that particular station.

Since there has now been more official rain days during this month at both of those stations than the respective 1981-2010 January average for each of those stations, this month will now go down as being wetter than average in terms of the number of official rain days at both of those stations, regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month.

Furthermore, more rain has now fallen at Edinburgh Gogarbank during this winter than the 1981-2010 winter average for that stations which means that regardless of what happens during the rest of this winter, this winter will now go down as being wetter than average at both of those stations in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

However, it is now looking as the rainfall amounts at Edinburgh Gogarbank will now come out at around average during this month unless there is a lot of rain there during the last 4 days of this month.

Before I present today's data, I must inform everyone that the manner in which I am doing that will now change with immediate effect due the loss of access to all of my previous sources for this data.

This means that I am now having to take this data from the same SYNOP data which I use to report temperatures and sunshine totals on other threads.

Since this SYNOP data comes in 4 times a day in line with when the GFS model runs are produced, this means that I can no longer go by the 09:00 UTC start to each observation day as I would like to, so I have adjusted all of the previous data accordingly.

6z is chosen for this data because that is when the full 24 hour totals come out, although 12 hour totals come out at 6pm every evening with 6 hour totals coming out at noon and at midnight.

As I cannot get this same data for the botanic gardens in Edinburgh (the data from weatheobs.com only goes back a week), I cannot get an accurate picture of the latest totals at that particular station and so, I have decided to leave that one out for now.

This means that t I will now only be reporting this data for Edinburgh Gogarbank until further notice.

Finally, you may notice that there are fewer dry days being reported here than was previously the case but that is because there are a number of days which I would have previously reported as dry days, but where the 24 hour total shows up to be a trace.

This does show that less than 0.2 mm of rain fell on those days but since there was some actual rainfall on those days which might have been enough to wet the ground without being enough for any actual amount to be officially recorded, it is unfair to class those days as being completely dry.

This trace days will therefore neither count towards the actual rainfall totals, or towards the number of dry days. Now,

here is that all important data:-
