Didn't think I would see this until the mid 2030s
Finished work at 2pm in central London Bank area. Not as many people about but I'd did spot two men drinking white wine in the full sun. Makes you proud to be British 😁🙃

I suspect we'll hit 40°C in Durham, which beggars belief, frankly.

Why does zoom work on some pics but not on others?

Which begs the question: what will we see in the mid-2030s? 44°C maximum, with 40°C widely across England and Wales?
If we see 40°C tomorrow, I don't think it will be the only time before this decade is over...
Wouldn't fancy being in that 3-mile traffic jam on the M2 this evening! Miserable, especially as it's 35C or so out there. There's a familiar place close by, too!
All flights cancelled at London Luton due to runway issues caused by the heat

Doesn’t look like the record is going to go today? That’s something of an anticlimax seeing as there was a fair bit of talk around two 40c+ days in a row
A few of us are likely not surprised despite all the hype.

There should be 3-4 different areas seeing >40C tomorrow:
North Kent, Cambridge, Lincolnshire and the Vale of York. My guess is Cambridge will see the highest (~41C).
I assume this was measured in the shade?

In shade - eventually climbed to 37C.

Looks like demand is around 5GW higher than yesterday at this time. Interesting, too, to see the coal stations fired up in the middle of summer!
