Another deluge today with widespread floods and a few landslips.
The coastal cliffs will also be on the move again I think with all this rain.

A complete write-off of a day here in Edinburgh, courtesy of Storm Elin which has brought us a lot of heavy and persistent rain throughout daylight hours today.

The rain has eased off a bit now, but light rain is still continuing to fall with the wind blowing in from off the North Sea.

As I write, the actual centre of this storm appears to be over NE England. Once again, this is yet another southerly tracking low and it seems as though we just can't get any of these low pressure systems to actually pass to our north these days, as they are "traditionally" supposed to.

In spite of that though, it still isn't even the least bit cold here with a temperature of around 8°C here in Edinburgh.😡

An awful day here too. Wet and windy for the entirety of it, with stronger winds than some of the named storms in the autumn (it mustn't be affecting London, that's why it wasn't named). 20mm of rain so far.

It has, however, generated amber warnings in Ireland, which is why the names have been issued.

You are right to mention the lack of publicity about that though, as I didn't know anything about that myself until the latter part of this afternoon. At that time, it appeared that no-one else on this forum knew about that either, and that was why I put up a post about that on the media thread at that time.

Horrendous and dangerous out there. I usually like storms, but this one has me really concerned (scared, even, as I'm expecting damage come tomorrow morning)

But just a yellow warning and vague 'strong winds'???

I'm normally a big defender of the Met Office, but this is an abysmal failure.

Like you say, though, London and the SE unaffected so who cares, eh?

Like you say, I usually defend the Met Office quite a lot, but it's another big let down from them in the space of a week for North West England. We had no warning of the heavy snow in Cumbria last weekend and now this.

And 23mm of rain, too lots of local flooding since the ground was saturated after 28mm on Thursday and 24mm on Monday, not to mention that the council doesn't clear the drains until someone complains.

Hi,

There has been a recent 64mph gust at Crosby and the wind has that jet engine roar to it. Not heard that since last year. I totally agree with Saint and Bolty - there should be some warnings out.
The impression I recieved from forecasts leading up to today was for a 'windy' day. It's been much more and we've had another 20mms of rain.

About 5 years ago, I clearly remember having a conversation with my dad, that the garden patio would only flood on a really wet day - the definition of which on my weather station would be 11mm of rain in a day - an event that happened a couple of times a year. Now, it's 20mm a day or more on a weekly basis. It's very concerning.

So to sum up, a very wet and wild day, so temperatures are academic. Winds are just now starting to drop and we've had (another) 20.3mm rain today.

I'm in Nottingham and it's been stormy and wet for a few hours now, really noisy!

I came down on the train from Edinburgh today and a lot of the fields are totally flooded, as far as the eye can see, especially around York and Doncaster
