ConclusionOverall, a warmer than average spring with a substantially lower than average number of air frosts. May was by far the warmest month compared to average and was a month in which not even a single ground frost was recorded here in Edinburgh, let alone any air frosts.
However, it was also a thoroughly wetter than average spring with all three months being substantially wetter than average and also wetter than its predecessor. More than 100 mm of rain was recorded in every single spring month and in the end, almost two and a half times our 1991-2020 spring average rainfall was recorded here.
Finally, it was a substantially duller than average spring with all three spring months being duller than average. In fact, April was actually sunnier than May which is not what you would normally expect to see at the time of year with increasing amounts of daylight in each day.
Overall, I will give the spring of 2024 a score or 0/10 because I'm glad to have seen the back of it now.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
