So far genuine heat and warmth has been conspicuous by it's absence during June 2024 but the coming week should bring the first properly hot days of the Summer, but as ever in the changeable British climate the increasing heat and humidity will soon be followed by heavy showers and thunderstorms - After the thundery breakdown, the weather looks distinctly unsettled and cooler by the end of the coming week.
Saturday morning has been mostly dry through central and western regions but we have had some showery rain across parts of eastern Scotland and some heavy showers in the far south east corner.
The rest of the day should see many of the heavy showers moving away from eastern Scotland and southeastern England with mostly dry and bright weather pushing eastwards. Another band of showery rain is likely for western Scotland by the end of the afternoon. Temperatures range from 13C to 22C.
Overnight, a band of patchy rain moves southeastwards from Scotland and Northern Ireland to north west England and north Wales. Most places will become drier behind the band of patchy rain while much of England and Wales will stay dry with clear spells and variable cloud. Quite a mild night at 7C to 15C.
Sunday starts with plenty of sunshine for Scotland and Northern Ireland but England and Wales will have quite a lot of cloud with one or two patches of light rain or drizzle. Brighter and sunnier skies will push southwards so most places will end the day dry and bright. Temperatures will be very warm at 61C to 25C (61F to 77F)
High pressure is sitting over the top of the country on Monday so most places will be dry with plenty of sunshine but watch out for light rain and drizzle through northern and western Scotland. Temperatures will be very warm at 18C to 27C (64F to 81C)
High pressure remains in control of the weather on Tuesday. Patchy rain is possible for western Scotland but much of the country will stay dry with sunny spells. A very warm or locally hot day is likely with temperatures of 20C to 30C (68F to 86F)
The weather becomes more uncertain on Wednesday as low pressure starts to develop to the south and west but overall high pressure probably remains in charge.
So Wednesday could be another mainly dry day with bags of sunshine but rain could turn heavy and persistent through western Scotland. A hot day with temperatures of 21C to 32C (70F to 90F)
Thursday and Friday is low confidence at the moment but we may see an increasing risk of thunderstorms developing from the south while a band of more persistent rain pushes into the west. Eventually cooler and fresher air should start pushing eastwards so although Thursday could still be very warm or locally hot in the east, Friday might bring cooler air across the country from the Atlantic.
Next weekend will probably see cooler westerly winds with showers in the north and west but southern and eastern regions could still have a lot of dry weather. Temperatures should be back closer to average.
Summary: Mostly dry and becoming very warm or hot by mid-week. Chance of a thundery breakdown later in the week followed by cooler and fresher conditions by next weekend.
