July will be ending on a mostly dry note with plenty of high pressure dominated, mostly fine weather to come. Temperatures will become hotter but as we look ahead to the later part of the week we could be seeing a trend to increasingly unsettled and cooler conditions, which may take us through the first week or so of August.
Saturday morning has been mostly dry across England and Wales but there have been showers for northern England and eastern Scotland.
This afternoon will see showers becoming increasingly heavy and widespread through Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England while the rest of England and Wales will have most light, scattered showers and sunny spells. Temperatures will range from 15C to 23C so not too far from average from the time of year, but it will be quite cool when the showers and downpours come along.
Overnight, showers will quickly fade out with most places becoming dry later in the night. It will be a cool night with temperatures of 7C to 13C.
High pressure builds across the country for Sunday. We should have a dry day with plenty of sunny spells and just variable amounts of fair weather cloud. It will be a warm or very warm day with temperatures of 18C to 25C.
High pressure will be in control of the weather on Monday. We'll have another mainly dry with good sunny spells but a band of cloud and light rain or drizzle could push into western Scotland and eventually Northern Ireland. Quite a cool day in the north with temperatures of 15C to 18C but very warm or locally hot further south with temperatures of 23C to 28C.
High pressure continues to ridge through the country on Tuesday. Any light rain or drizzle should soon die out across Scotland with all places having a dry day with plenty of sunny spells. The best of the sunshine will be in the south and south east. Very warm or locally hot with temperatures of 20C to 31C (68F to 88F) from the north to the south.
Wednesday will bring plenty of dry, sunny and very warm or hot weather once again. A few scattered thunderstorms are possible in the south and south east although how widespread they become is uncertain at the moment, Many central, northern and western regions should have a mostly dry day with sunny spells. Very warm or hot once again. Temperatures range from 21C to 32C (70F to 90F)
High pressure will be replaced by a shallow trough on Thursday. There could be some scattered heavy, thundery showers or thunderstorms in central and eastern regions but the west has the best chance of staying dry. Quite warm and humid with temperatures of 18C to 26C but probably a little cooler than previous days.
Friday and the weekend brings a lot of uncertainty but we could see an increasing trend towards low pressure taking over from off the Atlantic. The weather may turn more unsettled with outbreaks of rain pushing eastwards across the country. At the same time, temperatures are likely to become cooler, too.
Summary: Turning mostly dry and becoming hot in the south. Cooler and more unsettled by next weekend.
