Conclusion

October 2024 was slightly warmer than average overall, mainly due to constant mild weather towards the latter part of the month which is still ongoing into this month as well.

The number of air frosts was slightly above average though, although these occurred only on back to back days in the earlier part of the month.

It was a slightly wetter than average month overall but October is our wettest month of the year on average anyway according to the 1991-2020 averages which means that it wasn't excessively wet.

However, October 2024 was yet another duller than average month within what has now turned out to be a very dull year.

A wet first half of the month gave way to a drier, more settled spell by the end. The middle of the month saw notable warmth, reaching 23C, and for all the world it felt like a toned-down version of July; the dewpoint reached 19C, very unusual for October. (And, indeed, up to 10 or maybe 15 years ago, 19 would have been almost unheard of at any time of year, let alone mid-autumn). Overall it was a warmer than average month and a fair bit drier than average.
No frosts, but that's no surprise - at least there were a couple of nice light shows instead!
