Mild and windy, following on from a noisy night thanks to the wind.

It's as warm as a July morning here, 14.7 / dew 11.8. The coldest it's been since midnight is 13.9...

A windy night with gusts in the mid sixties. The rain has been pulsing with very heavy bursts followed by a drizzly episode.
The main feature was the temperature which peaked at 15.6c at 02:30… that’s mild. A squall line has just moved through dropping the temperature to 13.8c

It's possible that you might have quoted a date record for your location but if it is, it will count as a date record for yesterday rather than today.

I easily be wrong with that of course but if I am, I'm sure that someone will correct me on that one.

As far as Edinburgh Gogarbank (to avoid repeating myself, I will say now that this is the station which I will be referring to from now on in this post) is concerned, this is when I would normally be reporting the overnight minimum temperature but it's not as simple as that this time because there was quite a big jump in the temperature last night of 9.8°C in the space of just an hour.

In the end, the temperature rose to a ridiculously mild (for this time of year) 14.9°C which is therefore yesterday's official maximum temperature.

Yesterday's official minimum temperature was actually 0.3°C and was recorded at 10am yesterday morning.

With that, all of the snow which was around has now completely disappeared even from the nearby hills which is quite remarkable given that there is usually always a lot more snow on the hills than what there is here.

Overnight rain has cleared away to give us a lot of cloud to start today although there are some breaks in that cloud as well.

It's also breezy but not nothing like as windy as it can be when one of these storms is around.

Meanwhile, the temperature here in Edinburgh has dropped back quite a bit over the last few hours, but only to around 8°C which isn't even the least bit cold any more.

Winter is over!!😡

Unsurprisingly a mild morning here as well at 15.7c, a recent gust of 50mph is only 3mph from the record on my PWS.

8.2mm since midnight brings the the weekend up to 37mm so far.

Back in those days, an observer would go out and take a number of readings and it would typically be at around 9am on each morning that this would be done.

That 9am time has therefore, stuck around ever since and I'm guessing that this is probably how it then ended up being the start and end of each official observation day with the adjustment to UTC to allow for the change of clocks every year, thus ensuring that every official observation day is always the same length of 24 hours even when the clocks go back and forward every year.

Again though, I am more than happy to be corrected on that one if I'm wrong.

Meanwhile back on topic, the Sun is now shining here in Edinburgh with a temperature of around 9°C.

Does anybody know the date record for today for London? It is 17.3C here at 11.30 am. Not much rain, just 4.2mm in the last 5 days but blowing and absolute gale with wheely bins blown over. Oak tree not lost leaves yet and even some still on lower branches of Silver Birch.

As John has mentioned, really unusual weather for sure. At my location it was still 1.5 C with 5cm of wet snow and slush at 1600 yesterday. Between 0100-0200 it was around 14 C and now it's back down to 9 C, sunny and no trace of yesterdays snow! Somewhat bizarre!

Fair with hazy sunny spells and some cloud all making the current 16.0 C feel quite balmy despite the brisk SW breeze.

Even though weather data are showing 60+ mph gusts across Kent, it isn't at all that bad at this end as I appear to be sheltered by the nearby built up hilly "windbreaker".

This is from next door's front garden earlier on this morning, you can see the above mentioned windbreaker to the right . . .
