I drove to a meeting for 7pm and it was pouring with rain. The sound of rain on the warehouse roof stopped around 7:30. I left the building at 8:30 to find it was tanking down with wet snow. In the short drive home the roads were turning white - no sign of any grit.

A perfect recipe for chaos here in the morning as it doesn't take much to cause gridlock on Cambridgeshire's overcrowded roads.

Pretty slippy conditions on the A31 through Four Marks at around 6:30 - a good 4cm lying there, and falling heavily. MetOffice forecast/warnings pretty much spot on.

Interesting that most of the Wunderground stations near here are reporting 0C and it's snowing but the MetO nowcast says 3C and heavy rain.

I am guessing that second band of ppn was enough to drive the temperature down through evaporative cooling.

In my experience it is very unusual for this location to have a marginal situation end up with snow rather than rain.

A little bit of altitude having a big impact round here. Snow covering grass and cars and patchy on paths and roads at my place. I drove up to the downs where snow was coming down much more heavily and everything was white, thick on the trees and roads. I drove down into the mole valley and there was lighter snow and a thin wet covering on grass. I drove back up to my place, a difference of 50masl or so, and snow was falling noticeably heavier and was thicker in the ground....lovely drive!

Drove over to Sevenoaks (ca 200m asl) for a meeting this evening and it was raining at 8pm.  By the time I got out at 9.45pm it was snowing fairly heavily, and settling more or less everywhere including patches on the main roads, but accumulated depth was only a couple of cm or so, and the snow was pretty wet.  The A21 dual carriageway was clear, and there was less snow in Tonbridge (ca 120m asl IIRC), and the rate of fall had eased off.  It looks as though from the radar that we will have a while yet of light snowfall, but I doubt that it will come to much.

Still, nice to see the white stuff, and experience again the mesmerising effect of driving through falling snow.

Edited to add: Forgot to post the temp. readings that I noted at the original time of posting: 0.5*C (DP -1*C)

Hi all, we have just had a heavy snow shower which has left a good covering on the ground. What is more than can be said for the five hour fall today All I can ask is for one proper snowfall to settle for this winter.

Still snowing here, although it's now light stuff. Around 3cm on some surfaces and a good covering of 1-2 cm everywhere.

Arpege 18z is saying we mostly had a light rain and a brief period of sleet and snow, which I will bear in mind when I look at the prediction for Thursday.
