Any news from the Republic of Ireland? - some places must have had some heavy snowfall, whilst for others the radar shows rain.

Judging from MetEireann current observations, not a whole lot. Some lightish snow in parts of the West and North but rain elsewhere. We've had 15mm of rain so far - if only that had been snow! However, the forecast is for the rain to turn to snow this evening. The question is whether it will be cold enough for any snow to lie, or whether we will even have any. The rain could well peter out before the colder air digs in.

Thanks Lionel. In that case, I guess the patches showing continuous snow on the radar must be where the mountains and hilltops are high enough.

I know I shouldn't but it does give some idea as to whether prospects are generally improving or otherwise.


Currently showing the best it has throughout. 14 consecutive hours of one snowflake, with 5 consecutive hours of 2 snowflakes from 10pm to 3am.


I make that 19 snowflakes altogether! Lord knows how that translates into snow depths, but that's got to be enough to cancel my train to work tomorrow right?!?


...which probably means it's about to go completely wrong

Sleet has pepped up intensity quite significantly here in the last 30 mins (well to your north) so may not peter out as much as you may think as it swings back south. SE best placed this evening I would imagine.
