It seems to be strung out more to the east, so might cover a wider area as it moves north? Certainly looks like it might hit eastern areas a bit ahead of schedule.

Not just that but the radar shows precipitation over us as I type but its dry on the ground. 

The local schools have closed early and will be tomorrow too.

Time to change of course but they the schools seem quite confident of some significant snow later today to take this approach and begin the weekend early.

Bit like the summer watching high level stuff approaching from France, well not quite the same but on the ground nothing or a few large drops of rain. The potential is there...

I would say the precipitation models are almost useless at this range, radar will tell the story.

I believe the Meto app takes its data from EURO4 I may be wrong but I would assume that the MO can see the 12z output from that hense which is reflective in the app?

Snow reported in NewQuay which is great sign for everyone else.

Met Eireann's hi res 'Harmonie' model places your best bets around midnight or shortly after. Very messy system though so I think keeping an eye on the window will be as good as any model output at the moment.

Just did mine and I now have 3 heavy snow symbols for NW London at 11pm, 2am and 3am with almost11 hours of continuous snow. Might be time get the Monte Cristo ready !!!

Yes, been looking at that. A rather broad band of fairly heavy precipitation moving N.E with the S.E right in the firing line. I imagine it is expected to slow, weaken and/or stall if the forecast is right because it looks like producing more than a couple of cmi f it makes it's way north of London/Essex.

My fear is that the system will tend to break up as it heads South and many areas may miss out.

Looking forward to the WRF12Z. The convective snow in the north has alot of potential, the temperatures are so low any snow will settle instantly.

Still very frosty here on Tyneside... can see distant clouds out over the north sea but nothing really showing on the radar yet

 

Conditions are currently not right for it. Winds are from the SE, and directional shear is much too high. 6pm onwards things should start to appear on the radar.

At first I expect it to be rather continuous light snow but from midnight onwards I'd expect some heavier stuff to develop.

It'll give you hour by hour synopsis as to what this model is showing (below the map) for your location. Great thing about this model is that it updates very quickly. And I think it has a very high resolution of 2km Sq, so not bad!

The main band isn't far away from me now...a solid swathe of moderate-heavy returns but what will it fall as...?

I've got an air temp of 3*C but a dew point of -2*C. I can see places across Cornwall and Devon that are within the frontal zone yet still have DPs of 0*C or less so that's encouraging.

HIRLAM's usually very good with this sort of events, and it has snow almost right down to the coastline, so it'll be very disappointing to see much other than flakes from the sky this eve. Fingers crossed! I've been weirdly hesitant to truly believe in this one, not sure why!
