Amazingly, some overnight showers managed to stagger all the way from the N. Norfolk coast and hold it together for long enough to leave my sheltered, low lying, inland location with a slight dusting of snow - this is a truly rare event these days!

Edit: Just watched on the radar another line of showers approach from the NE but as it approached Ely it fragmented and dissipated - this is typical "inverse orographic" effect which plagues this low lying fen location.

Interesting to see the variation in the city. I have measured the snow and, although it is deeper in a few places, the average accurately measured level depth is between 8 and 9 cm...and it looks gorgeous.

Heavy showers still ongoing here, must be a good 6 inches but it has gone kind of wet through the day

A beautiful day with winter sunshine made brighter by the light reflected off the snow although it's melting quite fast.

For anyone who hasn't found this, the current sat image of the UK clearly shows the current snow in the South.

For me it's imby interesting how the snow begins north of Weymouth over the chalk ridgeway, then there seems to be an area North Dorset heading nw into Somerset and the Bristol Channel/Bridgwater area snow free. Exmoor, Dartmoor, Bodmin seem well covered but have a look.

The Poole/Bournemouth conurbation and coast going east is well marked by the absence of snow. And so on... Pompey snow free zone plus ça change.

Probably the best snow event since Jan 2010, not so much for the depth but for the fact that it was followed by such a beautiful sunny day. Went up to the hills just outside Basingstoke for sledging. 6-7 inches of snow still on the ground, clear blue skies, absolutely gorgeous.

Was out on Deeside between Aboyne and Ballater, which got the snow yesterday, and depth was perhaps around 10-12cm. However Lower Deeside appears to have missed out both yesterday and overnight. Peterculter and Milltimber just have the same as we had all week with lots of green fields and even as far inland as Banchory there is less snow than in Aberdeen.

Despite the radars ppn type indicating snow, the last shower was predominantly rain with a bit of sleet thrown in.

Depth was 3cm this morning but it's getting a top up now with some fairly moderate snow falling at the moment.

Nothing here, other than a very brief spell of rain which has now moved through, and which wasn't even around for that to register at any of my local stations as actual rainfall.

That just sums up once again, how boring the weather is here where I live, compared to just about everywhere else in the UK.

Looks like a a period of heavy snow showers in Aberdeen now, but doesn't look like lasting long, so hope it does make it above 7-8cms:

Although as I type - this snow shower would have probably passed and now sun has come out and it's drip drip!?

The depth here is still at around 8cm with a slight thaw in treated areas but in shaded areas an extra centimetre or so on ground I had cleared yesterday. Might pop out for a bit of sledging (while we still can before tonight’s rain!).

Unlike the Beast's powder from last year, which I think disappeared very quickly.

I think the kids are getting too old for it now, so my wife and I are going out for a walk in it this afternoon and leaving them at home!

Sledge runs around here are still open but it feels like end of season in the Alps! Glorious sunshine, low dew points and snow still on the fields but melting on the tarmac etc. Quite a rare occurrence.
